Title - Child of the Kindly South
Artist - W.D. Miller

For those not in the know, W.D. Miller doesn’t rush songs — and Child of the Kindly South isn’t in a hurry either.

Recorded in Kentucky with producer J. Tom Hnatow, this is a record built on patience, perspective, and good instincts. The songs sit comfortably between folk, country, and Americana, driven by stories rather than statements — reflections on family, faith, regret, and the slow work of figuring things out.

There are ballads here, there are narratives, and there are moments that sneak up on you when you’re not expecting them. Friends drift in with harmonies and textures, but the focus never leaves the writing.

This isn’t a record chasing relevance. It’s one meant to be lived with.

1. Etude No. 1 in A [0:43]
2. Banquet of Stone [3:11]
3. GO, GO! (or The Songwriters Lament) [1:58]
4. Carry Your Burden [2:30]
5. Dear John [3:42]
6. Best Revenge [3:15]
7. Fell Apart [3:23]
8. Watch It All Burn [2:48]
9. Shades Are Drawn [4:25]
10. One Hell Of A Ride [3:48]
11. Little Things / CODA [3:49]

Channeling equal parts John Prine and Merle Haggard with a dash of Tom Waits, W.D. opens his new recording on the short, but sweet Etude No. 1 in A and that leads us neatly into the fiddle-imbibed sweetness of Banquet of Stone, the rhythmical mid-tempo rocker GO, GO! (or The Songwriters Lament), the Americana troubadour-hued Carry Your Burden, and both the sorrowful Dear John and the melodiously fun Best Revenge.

Along next is the achingly beautiful duet Fell Apart which is itself backed by the languishing beauty with the ballad Watch It All Burn, the atmospheric, breathy ballad Shades Are Drawn, and then rounding things out is the gently rambunctious rocker One Hell Of A Ride, the set coming to an all-too-soon close on the effortless simplicity of the acoustic guitar ballad Little Things / CODA.

This CD is housed within a 6-panel digipak, with artwork by Anna Pollock, lyrics printed across the inside panels and is a limited pressing.
