Title - You Should Be Dancing (Limited Edition 4LP)
Artist - Bee Gees

For those unaware, UMe has just released a new limited-edition box set by one of the biggest and most beloved acts in popular music history, the Bee Gees.

You Should Be Dancing is a four-disc collectors item featuring the highly sought-after original 12-inch versions of some of Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb’s most iconic dancefloor-fillers, plus previously unreleased extended versions of five further Gibb brothers’ classics. Additionally, the set also includes the previously hidden 90’s UK club hit, Decadance, as well the long-awaited physical debut of SG Lewis’s viral 2021 remix of More Than A Woman.

Limited to just 1,000 units, the You Should Be Dancing box set will be a prized possession for music fans the world over and is available HERE through the band’s official D2C store.

You Should Be Dancing boasts the 12-inch versions of the Bee Gees’ era-defining late 70s masterworks Stayin’ Alive, More Than A Woman, Night Fever, and You Should Be Dancing. The brothers’ signature R&B-influenced sound is also represented with the inclusion of unreleased extended versions of the smash hits Jive Talkin’, Nights On Broadway, Tragedy, and Love You Inside Out. Elsewhere, there’s the group’s thrilling original take on Yvonne Elliman’s 1978 global chart-topper If I Can’t Have You, the pre-Saturday Night Fever funk of the US top 20 Boogie Child, and the fan-favorite album track You Stepped Into My Life.

Bridging the gap in the Bee Gees’ astonishing multi-decade career is the inclusion of SG Lewis’s TikTok-conquering Paradise Edit of More Than A Woman, pressed on vinyl for the very first time as part of this collection. And rounding out the set is the group’s ultra-rare update of their own You Should Be Dancing, reimagined as the bonus track Decadance for the brothers’ 1993 album Size Isn’t Everything. Previously only available outside of the US, Decadance is featured in both its original incarnation as well as the Ben Liebrand Vocal Mix.

As much as this is an incredibly feelgood collection of their big hits expanded, I also want to make it clear that the very early years of the Bee Gees fully deserve a massive amount of attention.

Indeed, I think their late sixties music had a very unique sound which stood out just like the Phil Spector infamous Wall of Sound, which at the time was quite revolutionary. Remember, we had mono AM radio back then. I also remember saving up my earnings from my paper route to buy Odessa; and it was a red velvet treasure to me. Thus, at my age and with my own musical tastes, I would actually argue for Odessa as their most significant album within their discography.

That all said, and thanks for allowing me to vent there for a second, after that time period had flushed into a new one, and thanks to partnering up with Arif Mardin and later Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson, they shifted genres (while still keeping their own unique style) and began achieving unprecedented commercial success.

Contributing to the 2nd bestselling soundtrack album of all time (and the biggest selling album period until Thriller), 8 number one singles in four years, 5 Grammys, a studio album selling over 20 million copies, a record-breaking US tour, and oh my, the list goes on. That’s not even counting the success Andy achieved thanks to Barry’s songwriting. Or the numerous other artists who achieved hits written by the Gibbs during this time.

So you know what you are getting here with this 14-track masterpiece of musical art and it never lets you down at any stage. Spending 3 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts, “How Deep is Your Love” reigns as the most successful Bee Gees song. As the first of the six consecutive chart-toppers, “How Deep is Your Love” spent over 30 weeks on the charts and was followed by tracks like “Night Fever,” “Stayin’ Alive,” “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” and more.

You Should Be Dancing, a four-disc set limited to just 1,000 copies, will feature 12-inch versions of some of the group’s biggest hits disco hits, along with previously unreleased extended versions of tracks.

The set features ’70s-era classics like “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” “You Should Be Dancing” and “More Than a Woman,” as well as previously unreleased extended versions of “Jive Talkin,’” “Tragedy,” “Nights on Broadway” and “Love You Inside Out.”

There’s also their cover of Yvonne Elliman’s 1978 hit “If I Can’t Have You”; producer SG Lewis’ Paradise edit of “More Than a Woman,” getting its first-ever vinyl release; and “Decadance,” the Bee Gees’ own update of “You Should Be Dancing,” which was previously only available outside the U.S.

Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb’s genre-spanning creations have stirred hearts, minds and feet in every corner of the globe for almost 60 years. The You Should Be Dancing box set is a celebration of some of the finest, most moving – in every sense of the word – music ever recorded.
