Title - Postcards from the Past [2CD]
Artist - Gary Husband
For those unaware, multi-instrumentalist-composer Gary Husband is releasing Archival 2CD set Postcards from the Past, containing previously unreleased tracks from 1978 to 2021, in collaboration with MoonJune Records.
While Leeds-born Gary Husband may have initially made his mark in the ‘80s and ‘90s as a drummer with the likes of Allan Holdsworth, Level 42, Gary Moore and Jack Bruce, he more recently showcased his considerable pianistic skills in the company of John McLaughlin & The 4th Dimension Band, Billy Cobham’s Spectrum 50 and Time Machine bands and Bill Evans & the Vansband All-Stars, as well as on his own recordings as a leader.
On Postcards from the Past, a retrospective of studio, demo and live recordings from his personal archives spanning five decades, Husband reveals all those musical aspects and more in this extraordinary 2CD archival set.

Aphorism [00:50]
Culled from early cassette recordings of experimental improv jams with his early musical partners, guitarist Steve Topping and bassist Paul Carmichael, a demo he had made in 1979 with guitar god Allan Holdsworth, and DAT board tapes from live performances with his jazz quartet at Ronnie Scott’s in London and his Force Majeure septet at Turner Sims Concert Hall in Southampton, Postcards from the Past opens on the shimmering Reykjavík Dream, the rhythmically sculpted The Disguise, the ornate Not Even The Rain and both the prog guitar blast of Water On The Brain and the flourishingly introspective City Nights 2013, and then comes the short Bridge, the pure grandeur of 500 Miles High, the organically-hued Fallow Land, the drum-tastic City Nights 1993, and then we get the spirited fare of Evocations of Burt Bacharach (Live Excerpt) and the acoustic Companion (For Steve Topping).
Along next is the gentle roustabout of Deux Deux’s Blue, the jaggedly furtive Bing Of The Vale, the spatial prog of The Things You See (When You Haven’t Got Your Gun) and both the veritably cinematic scape of A Filmic Rhapsody and the jaunty Cinema Lullaby, and they are in turn backed by an aching yearn that threads throughout Ternities & Bandons, the late 70’s sounding drum track Guardians, the resonating The Train, the set rounding out on the highly emotive Song For My Father, the prog guitar monster The Fashion Police, coming to a close on the Spanish guitar-imbibed Song For My Mother and another short but sweet track in the form of Aphorism.
