Title - Love, Darla
Artist - Laveda
Formed by Ali Genevich (guitar, bass, synth, vocals) and Jacob Brooks (guitar, bass, synth, vocals), Laveda emerged from Albany, NY in 2018, capturing the attention of the alternative underground with their unique fusion of ‘90s-inspired dream pop, shoegaze, grunge and alt-rock.
The line-up solidified with Dan Carr (bass/guitar) and Joe Taurone (drums), growing into a collaborative powerhouse. Genevich’s and Brooks’ relocation to Queens, NY in 2023 signaled a pivotal shift—both in sound and scope—culminating in Love, Darla, out later this year. “It feels like a departure,” Ali concludes. “I think it’s my most personal body of work and also the most collaborative thing we’ve all done as Laveda!”
Anticipation is also high for what comes next. “I’m always excited to tour after a new record drops,” says Genevich. “But I’m also looking forward to all the music videos that we’ve made—and are still making—to come out.”
The energy of “Heaven” is sure to translate powerfully to the stage. “Sharing this record with people in the setting it was written—live—is what I’m most excited for,” she adds. “These songs are my favorites to play in front of an audience. I really hope we get to bring it to places we haven’t toured before.”
Heaven is available now on all major streaming platforms. Their third album Love, Darla will be released on September 12th, 2025 via BAR/NONE RECORDS.

An exploration of grunge-soaked urban melancholy and soaring melodic textures, and after some guitar backlash Love, Darla opens on the grinding of Care and the low slung, drum-led alt-indie sounds of Cellphone and then we are brought forth the lush alt-pop of I Wish, the hushly whispered Dig Me Out and the propulsive energy of Strawberry.
Along next is the brilliant Darling Buds-esque Heaven and the veritably ethereal, breathy vocal of Highway Meditation and they are in turn backed seamlessly by the textured Bonehead, rounding out on the plush sounds of the melodious Tim Burton’s Tower, closing on another low ebbed, indie-alt embrace within Lullaby.
Love, Darla catches the band in a pivotal part of their trajectory. “It’s pretty different from our previous releases,” she explains. “Our sound has grown slightly angular and much more experimental. I think everyone individually has grown a lot as artists. For me, moving to NYC naturally opened my mind to cultivate something new.”
