Title - Romance Language
Artist - Kathy Sanborn

For those unaware, Kathy Sanborn is an American award-winning jazz vocalist, composer, and recording artist. Known for her velvet voice, Sanborn takes jazz music into the modern era with her sultry, contemporary sound.

Her unique control of voice ably enables her to interpret her original compositions in an emotional way that captivates the listener. Sanborn’s latest album, Romance Language, releases July 11th, 2025 on the Pacific Coast Jazz label.

On this new album she introduces nine sophisticated pieces that are quietly emotional and often haunting. Her voice, whether singing in English, Spanish or French, or simply wordlessly improvising, is not one that listeners will quickly forget.

Joined by the tasteful trumpet playing of Wayne Ricci and her supportive keyboards, Kathy Sanborn performs a memorable program of her new music.

1. Romance Language (for Uan Rasey) [4:09]
2. Never Blue [3:51]
3. Sonrisa [3:15]
4. Cambios [4:14]
5. Si Bon (So Good) [3:47]
6. Después de las lágrimas [3:56]
7. El Viaje [4:32]
8. Romance Language (Homage to a Trumpeter) [4:34]
9. Otro [4:23]
10. El jardín de la Vida [3:28]

This elegantly crafted, devotedly sculptured new recording opens on the low slung, sultry finger-snapper title track Romance Language (a tribute to the masterful studio trumpeter Uan Rasey) and then we get the heartfelt Never Blue, the all-embracing Sonrisa and both the impassioned Cambios and the rhythmically delightful Si Bon (So Good).

The daughter of an amateur saxophonist next brings us the flirtatious Después de las lágrimas which is in turn backed seamlessly by the melodiously free flowing El Viaje, an aching yearn that threads throughout the dulcet Romance Language (Homage to a Trumpeter), the set rounding out on the dutifully curated Otro, closing on the sheer elegance of El jardín de la Vida.
