Title - Ward White is The Matador (10th Ann. Ed.)
Artist - Ward White

For those still wondering, a decade ago, Ward White stepped into the ring with Ward White Is The Matador — a 14-track showdown that dodged genre’s horns and won.

Noir croons à la Scott Walker bleed into glam stomps, unpredictable as a matador on a tear. Then comes The Olde Days, a 21-minute fever-dream epic—Bowie meets Zombies at a Spanish wake, with Lorca’s ghost nodding along.

Critics raved: New York Magazine called it a bright-hued sprawl, Elmore praised White’s soaring tenor. Aged like fine Rioja, this art-rock bullfight still dazzles—cape optional, brilliance mandatory. Olé!

Ladies and gentlemen, put on your thinking caps and prepare to have them blown off – it’s time to dive into the wonderfully weird world of Ward White, the art-rock alchemist who turns musical genres into abstract expressionist paintings!

1. Sabbath [4:22]
2. Tumble [2:41]
3. Alphabet Of Pain [2:43]
4. Balloon [4:17]
5. Bikini [4:36]
6. Chiquita [2:57]
7. Dia Luna [3:20]
8. Drive Thru [4:14]
9. I’ll Make It Up To You [3:40]
10. Rash [4:00]
11. Reprieve [3:47]
12. Dolores On The Dotted Line [4:11]
13. Salvaged Rose [1:08]
14. The Olde Days [20:47]

This first-ever CD release, bringing White’s genre-defying opus to digital disc at last, opens on the foot tapping rocker Sabbath and the guitar-driven beauty Tumble and then we get the free flowing Alphabet Of Pain, the vibrating guitar work that threads throughout Balloon, the stridently sculpted Bikini, before the fervently-charged Chiquita and the languishing Dia Luna are both brought forth.

Along next is the forthright Drive Thru and the indie-pop sensibilities of I’ll Make It Up To You and they are in turn backed by some aching lyrics spawned within Rash, the sturdy Reprieve, the music rounding out on the playful Dolores On The Dotted Line, the short, but sweetly cultured Salvaged Rose, coming to a close on the reverberation of repetitiveness within the twenty minute storytelling opus entitled The Olde Days.

Ward White doesn’t just blur the lines between avant-garde and accessible; he erases them, redraws them in invisible ink, and then sets the whole canvas on fire. He’s the phantom of the rock opera, the ghost in the mainstream machine, the artist your art teacher warned you about.

So, whether you’re a seasoned art-rock aficionado or just someone who likes their music with a side of What the heck am I listening to?, it’s time to jump on the Ward White bandwagon. Just don’t expect it to travel in a straight line – or even on roads!
