Title - Just the Three of Us
Artist - Alan Chaubert
For those unaware, Alan Chaubert is a renowned, established jazz artist who has taken his soulful, sophisticated virtuosity on both trumpet and piano to develop a unique and exciting sound when he plays both instruments at the same time.
Chaubert is known for his beautiful golden tone, his lyrical and introspective phrasing, and his superb musicality and creativity in the vein of Chet Baker, Bill Evans, Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis. He is a soulful and stirring performer.
His brand new album Just the Three of Us (releasing February 22nd, 2025 via Pacific Coast Jazz) showcases the melodic jazz talents of Chaubert, who masterfully plays both muted trumpet and piano simultaneously. This unique approach results in a captivating album that features nine carefully selected tracks, ranging from the works of Charlie Haden and Bill Evans to Thelonious Monk and Norah Jones.
1. Well You Needn’t
2. Waltz for Ruth
3. Don’t Know Why
4. Peace Place
5. Poinciana
6. I Will Say Goodbye
7. For All We Know
8. Misterioso
9. Turn Out the Stars
10. I Will Say Goodbye - Part 2
Accompanied by bassist Beiden Bullock and drummer Jon Di Fiore, with percussionist Luis Quintero guesting on two tracks, the album (recorded live without overdubbing) opens on the pleasingly sumptuous Thelonious Monk track Well You Needn’t and the languishing Charlie Haden cut Waltz for Ruth, and then brings us Jesse Harris’ heartwarming Don’t Know Why, an aching yearn that drives Bill Evan’ Peace Place and then we get the gentle, yet playfully flirtatious Poinciana brought forth.
Up next is the sheer elegance of Michel Legrand’s I Will Say Goodbye and the late night, demure dance floor swirl of For All We Know and they are in turn backed seamlessly by their enraptured cover of Monk’s Misterioso, the set rounding out on two more Evan’s tracks: the all-embracing Turn Out the Stars, coming to a close on the decadent I Will Say Goodbye - Part 2.
Simply put, Just the Three of Us represents Alan Chaubert’s finest work to date, highlighting his relaxed yet swinging style and showcasing his exceptional talent on both trumpet and piano.
