Title - Global [Expanded Edition]
Artist - The Cowsills
For those unaware, A missing pen. That’s the secret reason why this wonderful album exists!
That’s just a teaser into how The Cowsills’ Global (their first album of new material in nearly three decades) came to be. Yes, The Cowsills were a chart-topping family band whose story was the inspiration for television’s The Partridge Family, but anyone who actually ventured past the hit singles realized the band had chops.
Over the ensuing years, The Cowsills garnered a following of fans across the world, among them then and future musical colleagues. The story of Global includes not only the musical siblings, but also Dick Clark, Daryl Dragon (“The Captain” of Captain & Tennille), power-pop superstars, and renowned industry figures.
A piece on Global for NBC-TV’s Dateline would not be out of place… true crime and human interest! Global first appeared in 1998, but it was difficult to find. For those who did—it was a revelation of pure pop greatness. For those who missed it, it will be a new revelation now.
With full cooperation from the band, Global is back worldwide. Restored and remastered. The original 11 tracks appear on LP for the first time, and the CD and Digital programs feature three previously unissued tracks from the original sessions recently discovered by Bob Cowsill.
Bob, John, Paul, & Susan Cowsill, and veteran bassman Robby Scharf, are joined by guests including Vicki Peterson (The Bangles, Continental Drifters), Berton Averre (The Knack), Peter Holsapple (The dB’s, Continental Drifters), John Stamos, and members of the extended Cowsills family. It’s a joyous noise spanning decades of pure pop and songcraft.

This vibrantly effective recording opens on the free flowing, alt-pop sounds of What About Love?, the rhythmically rich Under The Gun and the rambunctious pop-rock of She Said To Me, and they are backed by the indie-rock hipsway of You’ve Got No Time, the euphonious Cross That Line, and then both the low slung rocker What I Believe and the foot-tapper I Be Low are along next.
Along next is the mid-tempo alt-pop-rocker Far Away, the fun-grooved Rescue and the gently melodious Is It Any Wonder? and they are in turn followed neatly by the sunshine pop of Some Good Years, this new collection now rounding out on there previously unissued bonus tracks: the R.E.M.-esque Free Fall, the smooth AOR of Maybe It’s You, closing on the guitar slinger, Timbuk 3-esque Shine.
Featuring updated artwork, the packaging contains new liner notes from Brett Milano and Bob Cowsill outlining, explaining, and bringing this incredible album’s story to life. The narrative brings this “lost” release back to life in a way you would never imagine.
So enjoy Global again or fresh, for the first time, now fully restored and remastered (by multiple Grammy winner Michael Graves). Put it on your turntable, or in your CD player (Yes, you can stream it, too) and feel the love of family and the power of music with Global.
