This spooktacularly ghoulish rock ’n’ roll soundtrack recording, opens on the uber catchyf Wisconsin garage rock group The Shandells’ Gorilla, the rambunctious Billy Duke and the Dukes’ vampire character Roland and the finger-snapping foot-tapper in The Circus’ 1967 hit Burn, Witch, Burn and then we get Teddy Durant voiceover for The Night Stalker, the countrified Haunted House (Cris Kevin, who himself was a DJ on WARL (Arlington VA) and WCMS (Norfolk VA)), the female-driven power behind Devil’s Gotten Into My Baby (doo-wop group The Devotions), before the slower, but funkier than the original The Spellbinders’ Castin’ My Spell (which was first released by The Johnson Brothers in 1959), the atmospherically-charged Sonny Day & The Tony Ray Combo’s Creature From Outer Space, and both the fun of the 1965 Vic Plati Qunitet hit The Chiller (A tisket, a tasket. There’s crumbs in my casket) and the always-incredible-to-hear Vincent Price voiceover for the 1959 horror film trailer of The House On Haunted Hill.
Up next is the Rockabilly of Carl Bonafede & The Gem-Tones’ Were Wolf, the surf rock of Metuchen, New Jersey act Ralph Nielsen & The Chancellors’ excellent Scream, and the jangly instrumental rock of Frankie Stein and His Ghouls’ Knives and Lovers, and they are in turn backed by the Motown-imbibed Witchcraft In The Air (soul singer Bettye Lavette), the low slung doo-wop finger-snapper VooDoo Doll (Glenda and Glen) and the 1959 dancefloor hit Cha Cha With the Zombies (The Upperclassmen), the music rounding out on Terry Teen’s horror rocker The Hearse, the awesomely creepy Boots Walker oddball Sci-fi based novelty single They’re Here, the horror punk vibe of Dave Gardner’s Mad Witch, coming to a close on the film trailer for the 1953 independently made American black-and-white gem Robot Monster.
