Title - Waiting For The Sun To Rise
Artist - Marc Jordan
For those unaware, a songwriter’s songwriter, Marc Jordan is best known for writing (along with John Capek) Rhythm of My Heart, the 1991 smash for Rod Stewart. Marc’s songs have been recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Joe Cocker, Diana Ross, Cher, Chicago, Better Midler, Natalie Cole, Kenny Loggins, Kim Carnes and the Manhattan Transfer, to name a few.
Waiting For The Sun To Rise (Linus Entertainment) is the follow up to 2019’s Juno-nominated Both Sides, and represents another deep dive into the jazz-tinged, wholly original soundscape Jordan revisits with each release.
Whereas Both Sides saw Jordan exploring the Great American Songbook — which for him ranges from Hoagy Carmichael to Lou Reed — Waiting For The Sun To Rise is a return to sumptuously arranged tracks for the piano and orchestra by acclaimed producer Lou Pomanti (Michael Bublé, Blood Sweat and Tears), with trumpet solos from Grammy-winning artist Randy Brecker.

This 15th album, which may well be his most emotionally heartfelt set yet, opens on the luxuriant The Last Buffalo and the emotively-structured Best Day of My Life and they are followed by the silky smooth Coltrane Sings the Blues, the dulcet balladry within Waiting for the Sun to Rise, the veritably shimmering Frontier (where if you close your eyes, you could almost see the sun rise) and the dusty storytelling within Rio Grande.
Along next is the mid-tempo, serene flow of Jordan’s rendition of Tears For Fears’ Everybody Wants to Rule the World and then comes the soothing Tell Me Where it Hurts, and they are in turn backed by the peacefully-hued Moon’s a Harsh Mistress, the sincere strains of Bad time to Say Goodbye, the album rounding out on his Blue Nile cover of The Downtown Lights, coming to a close on the simply captivating Cradle to the Grave.
