Title - Mosaic
Artist - Trio Profondo

For those unaware, initially bonding over their shared Italian American heritage, Jimmy Farace (baritone saxophone), Stephen Parisi (bass), and Paul Barrilles (drums) formed Trio Profondo.

The Chicago based ensemble presents Black American Music through an uncommon and exciting instrumentation – baritone saxophone trio. Trio Profondo’s aesthetic concept revolves around the theme of depth, as exemplified by the group’s exploration of the rich contrapuntal possibilities between baritone and bass voices.

After two years of experience as a working and touring ensemble, Trio Profondo headed to the studio to record their debut album, Mosaic (releasing March 31st, 2023), which is a collection of original compositions from each of the members and a standard from the pen of Thelonious Monk.

Ranging from themes of nostalgia, love, and exasperation, all nine songs reflect upon important moments in each of the trio members’ lives. Much like the nature of Trio Profondo itself, each track of Mosaic, though independent in nature, merges to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

1. Orange Lilac
2. Pannonica
3. Thinking of Crimson Skies
4. The Newness of You
5. When The TV’s On, But No One’s Home
6. Cloud Splitter
7. Lock The Door
8. Abandoned Name Tag
9. Mosaic

This delightfully elegant, flirtatiously succulent new recording opens on the delicately hued Orange Lilac and rather sublime, low slung rendition of Thelonius Monk’s Pannonica and they are followed by the softly dreamy Thinking of Crimson Skies, the veritably fluttering The Newness of You, and then we get the melodic When The TV’s On, But No One’s Home.

Along next is the aching yearn of wistfulness within the gently turbulent Cloud Splitter and the frenetically controlled Lock The Door, and they are in turn backed seamlessly by the languishing, late night vibe within Abandoned Name Tag, the album coming to a close on the playfully flirtatious, and titular Mosaic.
