For those not in the know, the brand new 2022 album from NYC-based singer-songwriter Arthur Lamonica’s outfit Rome 56 is loving chock full of the effectively catchy and smart tunes he is known for (having begun with his CBGB-era band The Shirts, penning their biggest hit Tell Me Your Plans).

Here on the brand new twelve-track Days Of Carefree Living, an album that was actually recorded pre-isolation but ended up becoming the homespun affair it is now thanks to the lockdown, the recording took place mostly at his home.

In principal a duo, with Arthur’s wife Kathy Lamonica contributing keyboards and vocals, the band will be touring again in 2022 across New England and the UK/ Europe, particularly the Netherlands where Arthur’s songs remain as popular as ever.

This free flowing work of musical art opens on the alt-rock of the title track Days Of Carefree Living and the Americana-rock of Dirty Money and then brings us the delightfully jaunty pop-rock of Platinum Girl, the jangling guitar hipsway of The Girl From Outer Space and then comes the gently frenetic Stranger On A Train and the countrified As I Stroll Through The Night.

The European-imbed storytelling within A Happy Man is along next and the scenic foot-tapper On Portobello Road and they are in turn followed by the languishing balladry of Coffin Song, the vibrantly effective The Lime Café, the album rounding out on the Dylan-esque In This Place, coming to a close on the delightful, mid-tempo pop bounce of It’s Raining in Paris.
