Title - Introducing the Scott Silbert Big Band
Artist - The Scott Silbert Big Band

For those not in the know, Scott Silbert, a multiple woodwind player and arranger, was born in Philadelphia PA, and was the chief arranger for the United States Navy Band. He retired from the Navy Band in January 2017.

Silbert began playing music after his family moved to Orlando, FL. Scott worked as a musician professionally for 9 years at Walt Disney World. He joined the U.S. Navy Band jazz ensemble, “The Navy Commodores,” in 1991 on baritone sax.

He was a featured soloist on national concert tours, at the International Association of Jazz Educators, Saxophone Symposium, the Midwest Band and Orchestra Conference, the Detroit-Montreux Jazz Festival, and on hundreds of performances at numerous concert venues in the D.C area.

Scott joined the Navy band arranging staff in 1999 and became the chief arranger in 2002. During that time, he had written over 400 arrangements for all the performing components of the U.S. Navy Band in Washington, D.C.

He is currently an active musician (lead tenor saxophone) and arranger with the prestigious Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. Additionally, Scott has stepped into the role of band leader, leading both his own small group and his own big band, both ensembles fan favorites for the massive DCLX swing dance community.

Scott’s first album as leader, Introducing the Scott Silbert Big Band: Jump Children (releasing February 25th, 2021), features some of the lesser performed big band works of the 1930’s and 40’s, all selections transcribed and arranged by Scott for his band, and is now available on both CD as well as a complete digital download.

This vibrantly euphoric new album opens on the finger-snapping delights of Jump Children (featuring Gretchen Midgley on vocals) and the sassy little instrumental numbers Annie Laurie and In A Persian Market and follows them up with the mid-tempo instrumental coolness of Jumpin’ Punkins, the gleeful duo of Edna and Tootsie’s Rag, and then we get the Scott Silbert-sung I Want A Roof (Over My Head) and the laid back, lazy-hazy Dusk.

Next up are the joyous melodies of Lullaby In Rhythm and the upbeat and perky 11:60 P.M. (again featuring Gretchen Midgley on vocals), and they are in turn backed by the gently fervent Down For Double, the foot-tapper Chloe , the quite stunningly rhythmical Shipyard Ramble, the album rounding out on the cheerfully jubilant She’s Crazy With The Heat, closing on the forthright swing melodies of Stompin’ At The Savoy.
