Title - 'Deeper Roots: Where The Bluegrass Grows'
Artist - Steven Curtis Chapman

For those not in the know, the backing soundtrack to Steven Curtis Chapman’s childhood was bluegrass music.

Some of his earliest memories are of watching and hearing live bluegrass music with his dad on guitar and a couple of his dad’s best friends on the dobro and banjo.

When he was still a toddler, Chapman’s dad opened a music store in his hometown of Paducah, Kentucky. Following in his dad’s footsteps, Chapman developed a love for music and playing the guitar.

Deeper Roots: Where the Bluegrass Grows, the newest project from Steven Curtis Chapman, harkens back to those younger days of hearing his dad play bluegrass and folk music as well as playing bluegrass tunes for music store customers.

1. 'Where the Bluegrass Grows'
2. 'Dive' (featuring Ricky Skaggs)
3. ‘Til The Blue' (featuring Gary LeVox)
4. 'Cinderella'
5. 'Victory in Jesus' (featuring Herb Chapman Sr. and Herb Chapman Jr.)
6. 'Great is Thy Faithfulness' (featuring Herb Chapman Sr. and Herb Chapman Jr.)
7. 'My Redeemer is Faithful and True'
8. 'How Great Thou Art' (featuring Jillian Edwards Chapman)
9. 'Life is Like a Mountain Railroad' (featuring Herb Chapman Sr. and Herb Chapman Jr.)
10. 'I’ll Fly Away'
11. 'Without Him' (featuring Herb Chapman Sr. and Herb Chapman Jr.)
12. 'Be Still and Know' (featuring Caleb Chapman)
13. 'I’d Rather Have Jesus' (featuring Herb Chapman Sr.)

Honoring his rural Kentucky heritage, this quite wondrous new album announces itself with a 'Where the Bluegrass Grows' and then rolls seamlessly into a rollicking romp bluegrass version of 'Dive' - featuring recent Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, Ricky Skaggs.

Up next is the signature Chapman soul-filled tearjerker 'Til The Blue' featuring Gary LeVox with the excellent lo-fi young love fairy tale of fan favorite 'Cinderella' along next. One of the stand out cuts here for me is the forthright stance of 'Victory in Jesus' featuring Herb Chapman Sr. and Herb Chapman Jr. (father and brother) and that's backed by the trio coming back on the strong ballad 'Great is Thy Faithfulness.'

The gentle guitar work and passive vocals on 'My Redeemer is Faithful and True' is just a joy to behold and that's backed by the wanderings and wonderings of 'How Great Thou Art' - featuring the dulcet vocals of Jillian Edwards Chapman (his daughter-in-law).

The upbeat 'Life is Like a Mountain Railroad' once again features Herb Chapman Sr. and Herb Chapman Jr. and that's followed by the high flying, arms and hands raised to the skies jamboree 'I’ll Fly Away.'

The album then rounds out with the family back on 'Without Him,' the quietly yearning 'Be Still and Know' featuring Caleb Chapman, with his father taking the lead vocal focus on the tender overview within 'I’d Rather Have Jesus.'
