(Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, et al / Blu ray + DVD / R / 2014 / Warner Bros.)
Overview: Dale, Kurt and Nick decide to start their own business but things don't go as planned because of a slick investor, prompting the trio to pull off a harebrained and misguided kidnapping scheme.
Blu ray Verdict: Luckily for us all, 'Horrible Bosses 2' returns the mayhem-lovin trio for another round of hi-jinx and trouble! Its begin with, Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day), who have decided to start there own business. They invent a gadget called, "The Shower Buddy", and are approached by Burt Hanson (Christoph Waltz) and his son Rex (Chris Pine), who agree to invest in the product. After Burt backs out of the deal, it's not long before they are looking for revenge and the hi-jinx begin again.
Surpringsly what is not repeated is the same screenplay and even more surprisingly is a screenplay that works, for a sequel, and manages to give you tons of laughs but also some gross-out humour as well. The opening sequence to the picture is well made and establishes the basis for the story. Once it moves into the second act, it becomes the crime-ridden errors that you remember from the original.
Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Dy are the perfect partners and give you the same characters from the original. Their style of comedy really works well for the picture and keeps it enjoyable. Jennifer returns as the sex-addicted man-eater who is still after Charlie and will do anything to get him. Foxx returns as, Dean "M***erf***er" Jones to add comic relief. You also get a cameo from, Harkin (Kevin Spacey), from the otherside of a prison viewing window, who seems unshook, and naturally abuses them leaving no change.
For a crime comedy that was about killing their bosses in the original, the idea behind this story leaves the title in question as there is no "horrible bosses" but its clear that Sean Anders set out to make a well made film, to which he did. The problem was the gross-out humour. One sequence is at the films opening and their is another into the second act involving a tooth brush. Adding gross-out humour kind of brings the picture down but its played for laughs that will most likely work.
Adding to the cast is, Rex (Chris Pine) and Christoph Waltz (Burt) who are the films villains. One is crazy and the other is incredibly flat. Waltz shows up in a couple scenes and he feels like a cardboard villain. I cant say its a bad role but its seems like his character was written just to be the money backdrop and that's it. Surprisingly enough, the film has a twist ending that will surely make you drop your jaw in awe and into the third act, it does have another surprise and a good ending. Its no surprise that they will make a third one and end it. Lets hope its a solid finish.
'Horrible Bosses 2' is a superior sequel and if you have to see a good comedy this year, It's worth watching.
