Overview: Shy school girl Sora is attached to her sketchbook but soon finds her tribe with the other weirdos in her school art club.

Wherever the awkward and shy schoolgirl Sora goes, so too goes her sketchbook. The whimsical, strange and beautiful countryside around her can only be fully appreciated after she pencils it out on paper.

While Sora doesn’t have many friends, it turns out that the Art Club is brimming with other artsy people, and before she knows it, Sora has a whole crew of beautiful, colorful weirdos.

A beautifully rendered slice-of-life comedy from supervising director Junichi Sato (Sailor Moon, Princess Tutu) and writer Mari Okada (Maquia, Hanasaku Iroha)!

Blu-ray Verdict: Sketch Book ~ Full Color’s is a great lighthearted anime about a very shy high school girl who loves to sketch life as she sees it, as it happens. Her favorite subject is the neighborhood stray cats. Despite her extreme shyness, she joins an art club and meets great friends who are each a bit different and quirky.

All in all, I loved this anime. It had unique characters who I liked immediately. The girls are portrayed as normal high schoolers not the usual big breasted ones in a lot of anime. It’s not romance, it’s not an action-thriller, it’s just a slice of life with a breath of fresh air thrown in.

The main character also shows development; I was pleased to see this. Some of my favorite episodes are the ones about the cats. I found the cat characters hilarious and cute! I was sad there were only 13 episodes. I don’t know if it is complete forever or if there will be another season; although I truly hope there is. I also have not read the manga so I can’t speak on any differences that might be present.

I’d recommend this if you are looking for something different, with a slower pace and lots of cuteness. I gave it a 9 out of 10. Definitely one of my favorites! And if you loved this show as much as I did, I would also recommend Chi’s Sweet Home and Ah! My Goddess. [L.A.]
