Identity [Limited Edition] [4K Ultra HD]
(Ray Liotta, John Cusack, Amanda Peet, et al / 2-Disc 4K UHD Blu-ray / R / (2003) 2026 / Arrow Films)
Overview: IDENTITY IS A SECRET. IDENTITY IS A MYSTERY. IDENTITY IS A KILLER. Before reinventing both the racing film with Ford v Ferrari and the superhero blockbuster with Logan, filmmaker James Mangold directed Identity, a high-concept thriller that fuses Agatha Christie-style mystery with nerve-shredding psychological horror.
When a torrential downpour strands ten strangers at a remote Nevada motel, tensions soon fray to breaking point. Among the reluctant guests are a limo driver (John Cusack), a washed-up actress (Rebecca DeMornay), a troubled cop (Ray Liotta) transporting a violent criminal, and a grieving couple (John C. McGinley and Amanda Peet).
But as the guests are picked off one by one, it becomes clear this is no random gathering. With paranoia mounting and identities unraveling, the survivors must uncover the connection that links them together - before the killer strikes again.
Released amid a boom in thrillers with twist endings, Identity channels classic whodunit conventions into something far more chilling, anchored by a razor-sharp screenplay that delivers shocks, psychological intrigue and a finale that lingers long after the lights come up.
4K Blu-ray Verdict: Let me tell you from the very off that I will give away nothing about the plot in this review and no spoilers will be included. The movie is really a multi genre film. Thriller, Suspense, Horror but I would definitely put it more into the mystery category. In truth, the plot/story is hard enough to explain but trust me see the movie and you will not regret it.
The introduction of each character was also very effective. The way the meet, the way they act on different circumstances, everything was on point. Not even a single scene of any character did appear wrong or miscalculated. In short, the acting is perfect, each character played extremely well by their respective actors; such as the late Ray Liotta, John Cusack, Amanda Peet and many others really do make this a top notch movie and one that will keep you guessing right till the final credits.
I must also state that this movie involves one of the biggest twists that I have EVER seen in a movie since the sixth sense or even the others. The twist is unforgettable and is enough of a reason to go out and see this amazingly written and directed edge-of-your-seat-thriller.
Let me finish by saying that I gave this movie a perfect 10, because in my eyes you simply cannot beat it for a genuine shock and thrill ride so I implore you to watch it for yourselves (preferably on a rainy dark night, with maybe some thunder and lightning outside to!) [R.L.]
