Overview: An ancient, elemental creature known as the God of Frogs rises from the jungle every 25 years - hungrier and more dangerous than before.

DVD Verdict: A savage anthology of interconnected horrors told across multiple decades beginning the late 1960s, a young woman is drawn into a frog-worshipping cult and endures a grotesque, body-horror pregnancy.

In 1994, student filmmakers documenting Florida’s frog population stumble into a swamp-soaked, campy slasher. By 2019, a politician and his son battle rising floodwaters as parasitic frogmen invade body and mind, driving one man toward madness.

As sightings spread worldwide and the creature’s existence is exposed, humanity’s response proves catastrophic. In 2044, the frogman has become a mass-market commodity - until mankind’s attempt to exploit the uncontainable triggers devastating consequences.

Initially, I was lured into picking this to watch tonight by its title and its cover. However, the mere fact that this was a horror movie that I hadn’t already seen was more than sufficient for me to give the movie a fair chance. I have to admit, though, that the movie’s cover certainly had me sold as well.

Writers Adrian Bobb, Matthew Campagna, Ali Chappell, Max Francis, Foad H. P. and Ilana Haley put together a fair enough script and storyline. This was an anthology, though with a shared focal point, so the stories were of course rather varied; some more enjoyable than others. What made this anthology work, where many other anthologies failed, was that the contents of the narratives were just bizarre enough to be outstanding and enjoyable.

Now, I actually do believe that I wasn’t familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list, and that was something that most certainly spoke well in favor of the movie. The acting performances in the movie were good.

Visually, then The God of Frogs was good. The effects helped bring the movie to life on the screen in a nice manner. Sure, it wasn’t a movie that made use of an abundance of special effects, but the effects that were used were good. [P.H.]
