'The Long Goodbye: The Kara Tippetts Story'
(Kara Tippetts, Joanna Gaines, Ann Voskamp, Jim Daly, et al / DVD / NR / 2019 / Ocean Avenue Entertainment - MVD Visual)

Overview: Watch in real time as Kara Tippetts, the quintessential 'normal mom' struggles through each new breast cancer diagnosis, ending with her untimely and hard to understand death.

DVD Verdict: The honesty and courage of Kara Tippetts inspired hundreds of thousands of fellow moms to follow along with her through her suffering and eventual death.

All one has to do is watch Kara for 30 seconds to realize she was an amazing person with a God-given purpose and here in this heartbreaking, yet highly informative documentary, you get to see everything she went through first hand.

It begins in 2014 and 2015 when one young woman in Colorado dared to explore the raw edges of dying with grace and dignity in real time. Little did she know that it would go on to impact tens of thousands around the world dealing with much the same diagnosis.

We learn that Kara was a 38-year old pastor’s wife and mother of four young children who had begun a mommy blog titled “Mundane Faithfulness”, sharing the concept of parenting with kindness.

The website already had a successful following when she began facing and processing a cancer diagnosis on the site. The site became a sacred space, as people around the world were touched by Kara’s faith, honesty, and candor.

Anyone who has experienced loss, pain, or disappointment will relate to Kara, and despite her suffering, perhaps even because of her suffering, she will uplift and encourage anyone who dares to watch.

But be very, very aware that no one will be the same after watching Kara's story, of that you have my word. For even this strong man needed to pause the screen to wipe his eyes from the tears flooding down blocking my view.

During her journey with cancer, Kara was able to write and publish three books, including Just Show Up: The Dance of Walking Through Suffering Together and And It was Beautiful: Celebrating Life in the Midst of the Long Good-Bye.

Her third book, The Hardest Peace: Expecting Grace in the Midst of Life’s Hard, won the 2015 ECPA Inspirational Book of the Year award.

The award was announced after Kara’s passing, but she had been informed of the win in her final days. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Bonus Features of:

Ann Voskamp Featurette (20 min.)
Joni Eareckson Tada Featurette (20 min.)
Joanna Gaines Featurette (15 min.)
