'Rick & Morty: Season 1' [Blu-ray]
(Justin Roiland, Chris Parnell, Sarah Chalke, Spencer Grammer, Kari Wahlgren, Brandon Johnson, et al / 2-Disc Blu ray / NR / 2014 / Warner Bros.)

Overview: Welcome to the world of Rick and Morty, a genius inventor grandfather and his less than genius grandson. Missing for nearly 20 years, Rick arrives at his daughter’s doorstep looking to move in, but her husband isn’t too thrilled. Rick converts the garage into his lab and involves Morty in his insane adventures.

Blu ray Verdict: This cartoon series is absolutely fantastic and mind-blowingly good. The 11 episodes contained in this firsts eason are all refreshing to watch and the writing is hilarious and creative. But then there's no surprise really since its co-creator created Community.

The hilarious mixture of wittiness, slapstick and action all add to making this show one of the best cartoons I have ever seen. Indeed, from what I've seen so far in this first season, the show that so easily parodies different movies and topics, slyly sneaking in references (sometimes not slyly), is going to go far.

The art is also very simple, but very appealing. Because the show is animated, Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland and the writers have been able to break free from the chains of live action, making the show more out of this world. In fact, the entire show is just chock full of nuggets and neither preaches nor deigns to condescend to the audience. Pacing is always even and feels right. The writers know where to push and where not to.

In summary, 'Rick & Morty: Season 1' is super clever, has great story lines, great visuals, is very smooth, uber exciting, and has some very thought provoking works of art to behold. Ergo, I highly recommend this show to anyone, especially fans of the Regular Show, Adventure Time and Community.

Oh, and did you know that the title characters of the show are based off the main characters from Justin Roilands animated short, 'The Real Animated Adventures of Doc and Mharti.' This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:

Behind The Scenes Featurette
Commentary and Animatics for every Episode
Deleted Scenes
Special Guest Commentaries featuring: Matt Groening, Robert Kirkman, Pen Ward, All Jean, and Friends
