From customer feedback, it is clear that those who purchase our releases savor the written information within each album. The Phantom Rockers album endeavors to illuminate the vital yet frequently unacknowledged Phantom Rocker session information. The featured performers used their real or alias identities, and the sessions were often conducted with Phantom Rocker studio musicians, who contributed to the dynamic recordings.
Another aim of the series is to illustrate how soloist and musicians were highly interchangeable, and their skills were shared, hence many became Phantom Rockers for legal reasons.
Therefore the Phantom Rocker information is expanded. Moreover, many of the musicians themselves were accredited recording artists in their own right.
Dee Jay Mark Armstrong began his profession in the mid-1970s at the Boys Club in Newton Aycliffe, Co. Durham, England. Aged twenty-one he moved to Sunderland, where he then worked for four years in the pre-internet times as a Radio presenter. He then moved to Newcastle, and in both cities, he set up some clubs and played at festivals.
Since day one he has been the Events Coordinator at the Rhythm Riot festival, and occasionally Dee Jay, and in Germany, he is the festival planner and Dee Jay for the Walldorf Rock ‘n’ Roll Weekend. Having finished five years of full-time study he departed England and began a new life in South Germany, and life changed in another way, for he became a father. As a stay-at-home parent, this prevented him from travelling too often to events, Nonetheless, he still manages to use his time wisely.
Indeed, he combines his role as a full-time father, with his employment as the Senior Researcher and release planner and compiler of albums for the Rockstar, Ireland family of labels; Rhythm Bomb Records, Koko-Mojo Records, Atomicat Records, Pan American Records, and Richard Weize Archives. He also wrote a short story for each edition of the German Yeehaaw magazine.
Musically he plays a good mixture of all styles but tends to lean towards classic Rock ‘n’ Roll, Rockabilly and Rhythm & Blues. At home, his listening pleasure is Honky Tonk and the early years of Country and Western music.
