Title - You Can Tell, It’s... [CD]
Artist - The Masonics
For those unaware, The Masonics are the Kings Of Medway Beat, known for being the best Rhythm and Beat combo since The Milkshakes, and there’s a very good reason for that.
With Mickey Hampshire (The Milkshakes, Mickey And The Salty Seadogs, Mickey And Ludella, Mick Hampshire), Bruce Brand (The Pop Rivets, The Milkshakes, Auntie Vegetable, Thee Headcoats, The Kravin’ ’A’s, The Clique, Dutronc, The Voo-Dooms and more) and John Gibbs (The Wildebeests, The Kaisers), this Medway-based trio fire rhythm ’n’ beat and rock ’n’ roll!
Since 1991, The Masonics have been raising roofs all across the land, and disturbing audio grooves on at least ten studio albums and more than ten singles. There’s no stopping them!
During 2022, the group joined The 5.6.7.8’s on their five-night UK tour, and then again in October 2023 on a ten-night tour of Japan.
Throughout all that, Spinout Nuggets have released five 7 inch EPs, a first-time-on-vinyl edition of their Outside Looking In album (originally released on CD in 2004), a new studio album (Sursum Tibiam Vestram), and a joint 7 inch EP with The 5.6.7.8’s.
But there’s more! Following on from the success of the four Rock’n’Roll EPs, world-wide demand called for them to be gathered on a long player, for those who like sit and enjoy a full length of 12 inch, so The Masonics went about and scrambled the tracks into a listeners journey, and have also added two further tracks too; their version of I Can Tell and an alternative version of Some Other Guy. Dancehall fillers, the lot of them!

This brilliant, feel good flashback collection opens on the roustabout I’m Talkin’ About You, the robust Bertha Lou, the jangly pop of I Can Tell and the hop-stop floor vibe of Leave My Kitten Alone, and they are backed by the melodious Some Other Guy, the pleasing bounce of Lookin’ For My Baby, the drum-led rocker Ride Your Pony and both the boistrous alt-pop of See That My Grave Is Kept Clean and the laidback The Ferris Wheel.
Along next from the Kings Of Medway Beat is the rambunctious Stupidity, the jangly rocker My Baby Left Me and the free-flowing rock of brilliance of Nothin’ Shakin’ (But The Leaves On The Trees) and they are in turn followed by the guitar rocker Killing Floor, the rhythmic poppy gem Thirty Days (To Come Back Home), the grounded alt-rock of Blue Beat and the Beatles-esque The Girl Can’t Dance, the set rounding out on the atmospherically-charged Clarabella, coming to a close on an alternative version of Some Other Guy.
With shared vocals and noise, and backing vocals also from Miss Ludella Black, proving that you can tell, it’s...The Masonics!
