Talking with Angel about Illness, Death & Survival
by: Evelyn Elsaesser / Roundfire Books / $16.95

Overview: Talking with Angel about Illness, Death and Survival is the moving story of a young girl battling leukaemia whose fear of death is ultimately lifted by the spiritual wisdom provided by her favorite doll, Angel, and by the account of a near-death experience told to her by a young companion.

Verdict: In what is a rather mighty fine authoritative, moving and moreover wholly captivating read, author Evelyn Elsaesser (an independent researcher and author in the field of death-related experiences, notably NDEs and ADCs) brings us a novel that highlights the fact, and from the off, that the narrator is not a fictional person - she is you. Becoming her, you will find yourself - and your way home. [Kenneth Ring, Ph.D.)

On the surface, Talking with Angel is the story of a young girl, told in the first person, who has contracted a serious disease. But don’t be under any misconception, perhaps suggested by the title, that this is still another story of sentimental claptrap designed merely to tug at the reader’s heartstrings.

Or that it is a book about the supernatural intervention of angelic beings who bring inspirational messages of spiritual uplift and bland comfort. No, something else is going on here as we follow our unnamed heroine’s journey during the course of her illness - a journey which, thanks to the author’s literary skill and psychological insight, we also find ourselves taking with her.

Woven seamlessly with how an informative, helpful vein of parents face the loss of a child, simply put, Talking with Angel about Illness, Death & Survival is a genuinely embracing, well researched and moving story of beautiful possibilities, all lovingly embroidered with spiritual hope for all concerned.

About the Author - Evelyn Elsaesser Valarino was born in Switzerland in 1954. She has studied Near-Death Experiences for over twenty years and collaborated with Kenneth Ring on Lessons from the Light: What We Can Learn from the Near-Death Experience (2000). She is also the author of On the Other Side of Life: Exploring the phenomenon of Near-Death Experience (1997). She works at the University of Geneva and is a coordinator for the Scientific and Medical Network.
