Disclosure Day: 4K (Collector’s Edition)
(Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Doming, et al / 4K Ultra HD+Blu-ray+Digital / PG-13 / 2026 / Universal Pictures - Studio Distribution Services)

Overview: If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? Now the truth belongs to seven billion people in an original event film created and directed by Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by David Koepp, starring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo.

Inspiring intrigue across global audiences, DISCLOSURE DAY can be experienced in theaters and will now debut exclusively on digital platforms starting July 21st, 2026, and on 4K UHD, Blu-ray™ and DVD on August 25th, 2026, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

4K UHD Blu-ray Verdict: Universal Pictures / Studio Distribution Services is expanding their 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray catalog offerings this month with the release of the brilliant Disclosure Day in the expansive 4K Ultra HD video format this August 25th, 2026.

For my money, this Disclosure Day 4K sharpness takes a fairly large step forward from others in their 4K Ultra HD catalog and even comes with HDR (High Dynamic Range) for the complete 4K Ultra HD experience, of course.

So, what we have is Disclosure Day presented to us as a two-disc with a Blu-ray copy + a sheet for a Digital HD Copy. Other stand out points you should know are: Codec: HEVC / H.265, Resolution: Native 4K (2160p), HDR: Dolby Vision, HDR10, Aspect ratio: 2.39:1 and Original aspect ratio: 2.39:1.

Featuring Dolby Vision and HDR10 for brighter, deeper, and way more lifelike colors, as with most all 4K UHDs, everything that we watch features these qualities - but somehow, this film gloriously shines within them all.

Noticeably crisp with the overall clarity receiving an obvious boost here on this release, what is more is that it is enjoyably noticeable. For as well as some new nuances to the somewhat drab palette courtesy of Dolby Vision, we also get to witness sudden bright pops of color, which makes the eyes draw in, for sure.

Such as the scene - which I will call the Mind-Diving Possession scene - where Noah Scanlon (Colin Firth) uses an alien rod to telepathically dive into Jane’s (Eve Hewson) mind, transforming a psychological invasion into a chilling scene of physical possession. Also, in a scene I will call Margaret’s Awakening, the whole kitchen encounter with a red cardinal that triggers Emily Blunt’s character to fluently speak foreign languages and read minds is mind-blowing too!

Another standout scene is the intense, high-octane train sequence where rogue whistleblower Daniel (Josh O’Connor) and meteorologist Margaret (Emily Blunt) find their escape vehicle stranded on active train tracks. Instead of escaping at the last possible millisecond like in typical action movies, Spielberg lets the train hit the car, dragging it down the tracks in a terrifyingly realistic stunt!

As for the audio, we get is: English: Dolby Atmos and English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1 (48kHz, 24-bit).

Overall, this is a very strong 4K HDR Blu-ray presentation, and, for the most part, the audio track remains fairly similar to its DTS-HD counterpart; with much of the action occupying the surrounds with outstanding directionality and placement where effects flawlessly pan between the sides and rears.

As for the film itself, well, Spielberg is back with aliens, and this time he’s telling a story that feels much closer to real life. It’s scary, exciting, and thrilling to watch and without all the supernatural and superpower elements, this is possibly the realest picture of what the non-government and government officials are trying to do now! It is bonkers insane!

I found the first act of Disclosure Day to be very decent and highly effective. It mainly focuses on setting up the situation and showing what’s going on, but once the movie moves into the second and third acts, it just keeps getting better. There was never any doubt that this cast would deliver, and all of the actors do a phenomenal job.

John Williams score is nothing short of perfection, as always. Spielberg’s direction is masterful, also as always. Featuring several of his iconic long takes and one-shot sequences that are genuinely impressive, story wise, the film is absolutely insane in the best possible way. Yet Spielberg somehow makes it feel believable and deeply fascinating.

The final act is easily the standout part of the movie. It feels strangely real, and it makes you wonder if something like this could actually happen one day for the possibility feels a lot more believable than you might expect now having watched this. The level of intensity, the action sequences, and surprisingly some comedic elements that didn’t feel like a distraction at all, somehow, yep, it all comes together very nicely.

I love Spielberg’s work, and I had a great experience watching this at home on the incredible 4K Ultra HD that Universal Pictures were so kind to send us for review. And whilst I recognize that Disclosure Day isn’t quite on the same level as his very best films, it’s still a great addition to Spielberg’s filmography and an impressive achievement for his 36th feature film. I mean, come on now, no one could tell an alien story with this much depth, spectacle, and humanity better than Spielberg, am I right ... or am I right? [H.H.]
