Gobblefoot (DVD)
(Chris Heikka, Jim “Bunny” Bundshuh, William Childress, et al / DVD / NR / 2026 / SRS Cinema)
Overview: Something terrifying has returned to the tiny village of Salem’s Bluff. It’s a week before Thanksgiving, but this time, it’s the humans who are being carved up!
DVD Verdict: Vicki Stanton, a professor of New England folklore, believes the culprit is none other than the dreaded Gobblefoot - a mythical creature, half turkey, half Bigfoot, that stalked these very forests 200 years ago. Will the residents of Salem’s Bluff survive to enjoy their pumpkin pie, or will they all fall prey to the monstrous Gobblefoot?
Every 100 years, an evil turkey named Gobblefoot rises from the depths to claim a human life, but, in truth, most of the movie is spent following a man drive from point to point to try and explain Gobblefoot to people. Lots of things not happening, and for long periods of time, when we finally get to see the main villain of the piece re: Gobblefoot, well, it is an eccentric bird of sorts ... and which actually visually works!
The monster is simultaneously really goofy and pretty frightening, it all depends on how dark it is in the room you are watching this film in. And, for my money, it is also better than Thankskilling. And even though there is no real payoff or explanation, Gobblefoot is a most glorious cinematic experience and as much as it is a confusing watch, it is also a highly entertaining one.
