Night of the Animated Dead (Blu-ray+Digital]
(Josh Duhamel, Dulé Hill, Katharine Isabelle, James Roday Rodriguez, Katee Sackhoff, et al / Blu-ray+Digital / R / 2021 / Warner Bros.)

Overview: What begins as a simple visit to a grave site soon escalates into a night of sheer terror! In this dark, animated retelling of the 1968 cult classic Night of the Living Dead, bloodthirsty zombies suddenly begin amassing everywhere!

As Barbara, Ben and an odd group of strangers hide in a remote farmhouse, their struggle to ward off the flesh-eaters outside creates fierce tension inside.

Containing terrifying new content not found in the original, Night of the Animated Dead will convince you to lock your doors!

Blu-ray Verdict: That’s right, the animated recreation of George A. Romero’s 1968 horror classic is coming September 21st, 2021 to Digital and October 5th, 2021 to Blu-ray Combo Pack & DVD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

Being a fan of the original feature film (Night of the Living Dead), but not really knowing what to expect from this animated film, given that I purposely chose to await its arrival here for review and then just pop it out, slip it in and sit back and relax with a beer and some munchies, I was amazed - in retrospect - at just how closely this quite wonderful and vibrantly colorful animated version stuck to the said-same original.

My goodness, it is truly a simply magnificent homage to the horror original classic and I would like to go a little further and only hope that studios take note of this and that we get to see more of these animated horror classics!

What a very clever concept and one that works on all levels, meaning this animated film will appease both the horror hounds out there along with those that worship the anime side of films (such as Batman, etc.)

Personally, I grew up watching daily doses of this style of animation in the 1970’s where every weekend there would be an animated remake of an adventure movie from stories by Jules Verne or Robert Louis Stevenson, but oh-boy, this remake looks oh-so much better than most of those ever did!

Thus, and as you can all now well expect, this Night of the Animated Dead took me lovingly right back to my childhood. Sure the animation isn’t exactly strikingly brand new, a little uneven at times, but that is exactly the way these guys at WB have intended it to be - rough, raw and an old school flashback gem!

The voice acting is stellar, the direction is tight and the edits move nicely along with the story line. That said, if you have never seen the original (!), and are a fan of the red band trailer over the green, watch this animated movie first to get a taste of what to expect!
