The Duplicate
(Tiffany L. Paige, Trey Hardy / VHS / R / 2002 / MTI Video)
Overview: What if someone was living your life better than you were? This is the nightmare facing struggling journalist, Karen Addams, when her investigation of a crime story uncovers the door to a parallel universe-unleashing a duplicate version of herself who seizes control of Karen's life. Greg Johnson confronts a similar demon, when suddenly the mild-mannered accountant finds himself accused of cold-blooded murders he has no memory of committing. A fight to the death is the only way for them to reclaim their lives. But, how do you defeat an enemy who is a better, more ruthless version of yourself ?
VHS Verdict:Yet another encounter with man vs. himself … or in this case, woman vs. herself ! Arnie pulled in off in ’The 6th Day’, but ONLY because he is ‘Arnie’ ! Lead actress here, Tiffany L. Paige is most definitely beautiful enough, and seemingly talented enough to carry this flick off, but the script (as usual in these films) is horrid throughout ! It’s hard to say where the cheese begins, but let’s just concentrate on the movie’s up side for this time being. The chase scenes, blood-letting scenes are well put together, but the “parallel universe” that they go into should really have been reduced on the ol’ white-splash scale !
