Title - 'One Chance: True Story of Paul Potts' (OST)
Artist - Various
For those not in the know, Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts has spent most of his life feeling 'insignificant'. Bullied at school for being 'different', he realized growing up that he had one true friend and that was his voice.
Singing was his escape. He was able to lose himself in his own little world - the vicious words of his tormentors replaced by hauntingly beautiful lyrics and melodies that lifted his heart and spirit. It was a love, a passion, a lifeline that would follow Paul into adulthood and help him through many more periods of adversity.
I have to say I knew nothing of Paul Potts - and I'm British! But, having seen the film, listened to the music, I now the know the following to be very true of a statement: Some will only buy the CD for the sentimental story of an overnight sensation from Simon Cowell's British talent show. Some hardcore opera snobs may pass, sighting technical imperfections! I mean, after all this CD was put together and released in the UK in a record-breaking 3-4 weeks to capitalize on the show's success! And, of course, others may well pass simply because they don't like opera. Fair enough, in truth (that last one).
All that said, those that enjoy the crap out of opera, or who appreciate it on a lower level, or those that enjoy PP's voice, well, they should buy this CD now - if only for the sheer listening pleasure of a man at the top of his game.
In the end, I don't care what the naysayers say, because this afternoon I've had a whole list of songs playing randomly done by various performers to listen to. And Paul Potts outdoes the professionals and anybody else in consistently grabbing my attention with songs that give me goosebumps. Ergo, my goosebumps are more profoundly convincing than what anybody can say.
