Title - 'Choral Works' [Acis]
Artist - Trevor Weston

For those not in the know, Trevor Weston has always gravitated to music that mesmerizes and entrances its listeners by creating a sense of suspended reality. As he himself has said on many an occasion, music can be a portal to a parallel existence where our experiences, thoughts, and ideas are communicated through the more impactful abstract nature of aural stimuli.

In truth, could any of us have ever said that any better. You see, and as Weston of all people knows, music allows us to retreat from the mundane to reflect more proudly on our existence. Ergo, his intentions have always to be to create music that is transformative regardless of instrumentation or style.

Dr. Weston’s honors include the George Ladd Prix de Paris from the University of California, Berkeley, a Goddard Lieberson Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the MacDowell Colony.

And so here in late 2016, the talented musician has once more delivered us a musical work of art, this time in the form of Choral Works, and performed by the Choir of Trinity Wall Street with its famed director, conductor and composer Julian Wachner. On this recording, the Choir is joined by The Trinity Youth Chorus and NOVUS NY (Trinity’s resident contemporary music orchestra) in order to fully embrace the breadth of styles contained in Weston’s eclectic and diverse music.

1. "Given Sound"
2. "Rivers of Living Water"
3. "My Heart Hath Trusted in God"
4. "Truth Tones"
5. "Magnificat"
6. "Nunc Dimittis"
7. "O Daedalus, Fly Away Home"
8. "Ashes"
9. "Ma'at Musings: I. The King Joins the Stars"
10. "Ma'at Musings: II. Complaint Tapestry"
11. "Ma'at Musings: III. The Wisdom of Intef"
12. "Ma'at Musings: IV. The King Feeds on the Gods"
13. "Messe Ancienne: Kyrie"
14. "Messe Ancienne: Sanctus and Benedictus"
15. "Messe Ancienne: Agnus Dei"

Indeed, this is the first album dedicated entirely to Weston’s music and fully deserves to be so. Acis’s Founder and CEO Geoffrey Silver says, “Trinity is simply an incredible talent, and a versatile and veritable stable of ensembles under the thrilling and singular artistic vision of Julian Wachner. Everything really came together superbly for this project, and in terms of honoring the intentions of the composer, Julian and Trevor have known each other since singing together as boy choristers under Gerre Hancock at St Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue, so the whole process was beautifully seamless. It was an amazing collaborative experience and I’m excited at the album’s potential.”
