Lisa Palleschi Lisa Palleschi

'Musical Freedom'

While Lisa has always known she wanted to be a singer from a very early age, the songwriter in her did not appear until her first year of college. "Initially, I never wanted to write. I just wanted to bring other peoples material to life. But, people kept advising me that if I wanted to get ahead, I would need to start writing my own music as well."

Since then, Lisa has written more than 15 songs, of which 'Released' is her favorite. "The lyrics flowed instantly and easily. I hardly had to write it at all", which is often how renowned singer songwriters like Paul Simon and Barry Manilow describe their most beloved classics.

"Released is one of my most personal songs", says Lisa. "It's basically about being trapped inside yourself and in your mind and that's how I was feeling when I wrote it. There is a line in the song that says I'm so tired of being told what to do. All my decisions made for me by you. I felt like everyone was dictating my life and I just wanted to take back control."

Chatting recently with Lisa, and noting that her bio proclaims her to be the new "A/C sensation," I first wondered if that was a lot to live up to or something that she could handle (and therein be) come the release of her debut CD? "I don't feel that it is a lot to live up to. I have wanted people to hear me and my music my whole life. So, I kind of have been preparing for this forever!"

For the Average Joe who may not have heard of you and was thinking of buying the new CD, how would you yourself describe your sound? "I think the sound of this album is very universal. I think it is a timeless sound, one that people of all ages will relate to. That's what I was trying to create."

Your album title 'Released' is an interesting choice, but perhaps it originates from a more personal standpoint for you? ""Released” was one of the first songs I wrote for this album. It is a personal song and one of my favorites. I feel like this album "released" a lot of negative things that I was holding onto in my life. So, I think it was the perfect name for the album."

And with nine of the album's twelve tracks having been written by you, I'm wondering why you didn't go further and write them all?! ""This Is Me” and “Already Gone” were written by Adrian Gurvitz. Sometimes I hear a song that is written by someone else and it just speaks to me. That's what happened with both of these songs."

If there was one track on this new album that truly encapsulated Lisa Palleschi at her musical and lyrical finest, which one would it be? "I can't choose just one. They are all like my children. Its too hard to choose. But I do especially like “I Promise,” because It was written for my brothers."

Is it true that you were in the same Berklee School of Music class as singer/songwriter John Mayer ... and if so, did you two ever hang out? "Yes, that is true but we never hung out. He was in one of my classes.'

Noting your MySpace page has over 600 names listed on it, I was wondering if you knew all these so-called 'friends'?! "I do know some of the friends on my MySpace. I think it’s a great site to network and meet people. Hopefully I will eventually get to know more of them!"

If there was an '80s song (possibly cheesy!) out there that you would love to re-record, which one would it be ... and why?! "I love all the cheesiness of the 80's! I did record an 80’s song - ”Just Like Heaven” from The Cure. But I don’t think it’s cheesy. I loved that song. So I just recorded it the way I wanted it heard from me. It’s my own personal take on a classic song I loved hearing when I was growing up."

When will we be able to see you perform live here in Michigan, USA?! "I will be in Michigan in August doing a radio promo tour. So hopefully sometime after that!"

Lastly, I like Penguins ... do you?! "Well, I loved “March Of The Penguins” so I guess I like them too!"
