Enuff Z'Nuff (2014) Enuff Z'Nuff (2014)

'Flying High with a New Thing!'

As I'm sure you are all more than well aware by now, Enuff Z'Nuff is an American hard rock band from Blue Island, Illinois. Founded by singer Donnie Vie and bassist Chip Z'Nuff, this Chicago area band is best known for their charting singles, 'Fly High Michelle' and 'New Thing.'

Celebrating an amazing 30 years as one of the hardest working bands in show business, Enuff Z’nuff proudly present this exciting new project, a heartfelt salute to the music and artists who have inspired them over the course of their 3 decade career!

Covered In Gold, a collection of 12 brand new studio recordings, features an eclectic assortment of cover tunes including Bowie’s 'The Jean Genie,' Nirvana’s 'All Apologies,' Prince’s 'When Doves Cry,' Smokey Robinson’s 'Tears Of A Clown' and lots more; all of which showcase this group’s incredibly diverse yet supremely melodic sensibility.

Chatting recently with the man himself Chip Z'Nuff, after first congratulating him for celebrating an amazing 30 years in the business, I then asked him what had kept him going for so long?! "Hard work and perseverance! Luck is the resin of design!"

The band has changed members off and on throughout the years, but both Johnny and Erik have now been with you for a while. So does that mean Enuff Z'Nuff will be a stable musical unit for a while now? "The band sounds great as a 3 piece and we hail touring around the world together!"

Back in the day the band was actually called Enough Z'Nuff, so whose idea was it to change it to the shorter Enuff instead? "Ours. It just took us time to figure it out, but it worked!"

And, just out of curiosity, when did the ex-high school jock named Chip Znuff decide to change his last name to Z'Nuff - and why? "1984. It was just a nickname that stuck. Evidently a lot of musicians seem to change their name for one reason or another. It's worked out well for me," he laughs.

And why Enuff Z'Nuff in the first place? Was something happening in your life at that time that you wanted to put your foot down about, perhaps?! "A band makes a name, a name doesn't make a band!"

Being that this is your 13th studio album, Covered In Gold features 12 brand new cover songs - and man, are they good! At this moment, here today, which one are you most proud of to listen back to and why? "I hail 'Believe It Or Not' from the TV show Greatest American Hero and 'Everything Works If You Let It' by Cheap Trick, featuring Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins. He is a great guitarist!"

I have to say, the album is incredible, truly, but how did you narrrow it down to just 12? Surely you had a bunch more either recorded or on paper to attempt? "We used songs that were recorded well, but yeah, there are still a few more in the can to be released in the future!"

Which of the tracks was the hardest to get right for whatever reason? "Queen's 'Stone Cold Crazy' was quite a challenge along with Prince's 'When Doves Cry'!"

And who is that woman on the front cover?! What's the story of THAT photo shoot?! "We auditioned over 100 goddesses and one got the gig. Very photogenic!"

As we're not called Exclusive Magazine for nothing, please reveal something about the recording of this album that you haven't spoken about in public about thus far! "Most of the songs were recorded live in one or two takes with very minimal overdubs!"

Are you the kind of band that already has the next album ready to go - whether it be in your mind or some tracks already set down in the studio, perhaps? "No, we have some new material and we will start recording next month in Chicago @ CRC!"

You have a brand new website for the band, but are you also an avid Tweeter and Facebook addict also these days? "Social media is what fuels the music industry today and it's a brilliant way to stay in touch with family and friends!"

Finally, we here at Exclusive Magazine LOVE Penguins (the birds), so we were wondering if you did also, perhaps? "I visit them at the zoo and think they're adorable."

Thank you so much for your time today, Chip "Thank you for your support and love! Chip xxx"
