'Dio: Holy Diver - Live' [Blu-ray]
(Dio / Blu ray / NR / 2010 / Eagle Vision)

Overview: The late Ronnie James Dio was one of the greatest rock singers of all time, most notably with Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his own band Dio. It was at London’s Astoria Theatre on October 22nd 2005 that Dio took to the stage to deliver one of the most memorable performances of their career.

Blu ray Verdict: The late Ronnie James Dio may well have been one of the greatest rock singers of all time, but due to his stature, that didn't stop people calling him names such as: elf or goblin!

Of course, these people were (hopefully) just teasing as the man who fronted Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his own band Dio for countless years had one of the most revered voices in the business. Add to that his lyrical fascination with good, evil, magic, and mythology, and whoever Dio fronted live, the crowd assembled all knew that yet another memorable performance was about to rein over them.

'Dio: Holy Diver - Live' was all Dio's idea. Back in 2005, Dio gave fans what they wanted by announcing plans to play the entire Holy Diver album as part of an overall retrospective concert. Luckily for us, not only does 'Holy Diver - Live' feature that very same classic Holy Diver album in its entirety, it also features some other classics of his day: Heaven & Hell and Sign Of The Southern Cross from his Black Sabbath days, Tarot Woman, Man On The Silver Mountain and Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll from the Rainbow days, and We Rock from his solo career.

My God people, could you (fans) ask for anything more from this Blu-ray release?! If you are wondering if you were actually at this show, it was the very final show of the tour at London's Astoria Theater on October 22nd. Featuring Dio's flawless showmanship and continual desire to entertain his troops, the show provides us what can only be described as a look at one of the businesses greatest live performers in action. This Blu-ray makes this classic performance available to be seen and heard in high definition for the first time.
