'Roadkill'
(Kacey Barnfield, Diarmuid Noyes, Eliza Bennett, Stephen Rea, et al / DVD / R / 2011 / Magnolia Home Entertainment)

Overview: Kate and her brother Joel have gathered their five best friends for a scenic RV road trip to their high-school reunion. But their cross-country adventure is about to take an unexpected turn for the worse when an ancient curse takes wing by way of a massive creature.

DVD Verdict: If you were not aware at this juncture, 'Roadkill' was shown on TV's SyFy channel just recently. Yet another quick-to-DVD turnaround, it is also yet another B-movie creature-on-the-loose flick from the Syfy channel. This time it's a giant bird of prey, the mythical Roc, preying upon a bunch of youths touring rural Ireland in an RV ... picking 'em off one by one!

I have to admit I sat down with trepidation for this movie as I've seen other Syfy channel horror flicks and man, they have been terrible to have to make my way through! But, and surprisingly, 'Roadkill' actually made me stay with it the entire cinematic journey.

Infused with moments from such films as 'Jeepers Creepers 2' (ie: the flying creature attacking a bus full of youths) as well films like 'Wrong Turn' (ie: malevolent hicks in remote areas), 'Roadkill' also has a sub plot about an old gypsy curse - which, now I come to think about it is actually reminiscent of 'Drag Me to Hell.' So, I guess if you like these types of films, 'Roadkill' is definitely gonna be your kind of movie! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.77:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
