'The Secret Life of the American Teenager: V. 5'
(Molly Ringwald, Shailene Woodley, Mark Derwin, India Eisley, Ken Baumann, et al / 4-Disc DVD / G / 2010 / ABC Family)

Overview: Relive the emotional drama of 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager' as the critically acclaimed series reaches new heights in its unforgettable Fifth Volume. Amy and Ben try to rekindle their romance, but things get complicated when Ben discovers Adrian is pregnant with his child. As Adrian agonizes whether to keep the baby, Ben struggles to tell Amy the truth.

DVD Verdict: In truth, this show could not cover anymore stereotypes than it does. Band kids, bad boys, Christian do gooders the list goes on and on. The acting is stilted, the script is laughable and the end result is a comedy with a foot in the Juno-like pregnancy craze!

Molly Ringwald is disappointing and just sad. The father is an idiot. The sister has one dimension. The friends are classic, the dumb one and the smart one. The boyfriend makes me want to shudder, could Ben be a bigger creeper? Grace is beyond naive and her boyfriend is just ew.

Adrian is almost real, but destroyed by her sexual exploits. Ricky is the typical rebel who of course has a troubled past. And everyone in the school can talk to the loving guidance counselor any second of any day without any fear. I feel bad for Amy, living in a world full of such crazy people! As for Amy though, she's...well she's pretty dull.

Almost every scene takes place in a practically empty hallway showing that the school there must have 20 minute passing times and a student population of 30. With each passing season, it seems like less and less happens except for romantic triangles.

I'm sorry, honestly, as I tried to like it on a higher level (perhaps, indeed, there isn't one!), but this show is pure propaganda and plain horrible. The acting is dreadful, the plot is laughable and there is not 30 seconds that goes by without the mention of "sex". Of course all the guys in this are cast as sex hungry jerks and the girls as naive. I will not spoil the predictable plots, but of course every situation involves sex and how it is bad.

But, playing the Devil's Advocate here, 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager – Volume Five' is actually the first half of season 3! Thus, the storyline now focuses on Adrian as she is pregnant but telling everyone around her that she had her period. Now she struggles to whether or not she will have a baby or have an adoption.

Meanwhile, Ben who has found out that Adrian is pregnant is worried that with his relationship going extremely well with Amy, she will hate him when she finds out that Adrian is pregnant with his baby. As for Amy, she has been accepted to a trip to New York City for her skill as a musician. With her dreams of trying to enter Juilliard, none of her family and friends want to tell her the bad news that Ben got Adrian pregnant!

See, what have I been trying to tell you all this time! And trust me, this 'season' gets way more confusing as it proceeds! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:

On Set with Director Anson Williams
On Set Fist Bumps with Joey and Matthew
On Set with Shailene
On Set with Luke
