'Yogi's Great Escape'
(Daws Butler, Don Messick, Susan Blu, Frank Welker, Edan Gross, et al / DVD / NR / 2010 / Warner Bros.)

Overview: Spring is here and Yogi and Boo Boo wake up from hibernation only to find that some major changes have taken place while they slept the winter away. Jellystone Park is closing down! No more Jellystone Park means no more tourists, and that means no more picnic baskets to pilfer! Yogi, Boo Boo and their new friends, the bear cub triplets, take off in Yogi's homemade getaway mobile -- the Supercar -- in search of a new home.

DVD Verdict: In truth, there's nothing particularly special here. 'Yogi's Great Escape' has Yogi, Bobo, and three baby bears fleeing Yellowstone in a crazy car after the Ranger announces that the park has to close. Over the course of the movie, they have a series of wacky adventures, namely because the Ranger hires a bounty hunter to help him catch them.

The adventure takes them through a western ghost town, into the bayou, and even to Mount Rushmore and the Empire State Building. In the process, they meet several other characters from Hanna-Barbera cartoons (such as Wally Alligator and Quick-Draw McGraw).

It's obvious that the Warner Archive Collection has brought this out to coincide with the release of the new 3D Yogi Bear theatrical movie, but that aside, as this is from 1987, it has its own merits too.

Like I said, there's nothing really special here. Although I will admit that that whole sequence on the Mississippi River was kinda neat, as was the scene in the boys' hideout - and what resulted! This is a Full Screen Presentation (1.33:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
