'Kolobos: Special Edition'
(Amy Weber, Donny Terranova, Nichole Pelerine, et al / Blu-ray / NR / (1999) 2019 / Arrow Films UK)
Overview: A group of youngsters arrive at a snow-covered house under the guise of participating in a ground-breaking new experimental film.
With the entire property fitted out with cameras, their every move will be recorded. But when the house locks down, trapping the youngsters within, it soon becomes clear that something sinister is afoot.
Scream - you're on camera!
Blu-ray Verdict: 'Kolobos' is a totally fun, unknown slasher film from the late '90s that somehow slipped by most people's (inclusive of my own, and I LOVE this genre!) radar.
Made on what is obviously a shoestring budget, the film builds up great scares, tons of gore, and a cool plot that keeps you going from beginning to end.
A group of strangers are holed up in a nice suburban home, all believing they are going to appear on a new reality TV show. Little do they know, the house is booby-trapped to make mincemeat of them when the time is right!
Added into the mix is a deformed maniac, a supernatural snuff film, and wild, wacky LSD visions! Good stuff! This film should even impress those who has seen every slasher film out there as it's a mighty fine sight better than most of the horror of the past decade!
The one this that had me concerned though was that 'Kolobos' is clearly a movie that was built around its soundtrack. In fact, to my ear, the compositions are clearly lifted (via homage, of course) from tbhe cult classic 'Suspiria,' as they both share the same tonal beats.
Anyhoo, with shades of Argento (the aforementioned OST and some crazy lighting galore!) and tons of gore (yippie!) you can do a whole Hell of a lot worse than to sit down with this little late '90s gem one rainy, cold, dark evening! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
