'Bill Nye: Science Guy'
(DVD / NR / 2018 / PBS)

Overview: Bill Nye is a man on a mission: to stop the spread of anti-scientific thinking across the world. With intimate and exclusive access - as well as plenty of wonder and whimsy - this behind-the-scenes portrait of Nye follows him as he takes off his Science Guy lab coat and takes on those who deny climate change, evolution, and a science-based world view.

DVD Verdict: For those not in the know, William Sanford Nye, popularly known as Bill Nye the Science Guy, is an American science communicator, television presenter, and mechanical engineer.

He is best known as the host of the PBS children's science show Bill Nye the Science Guy (1993–1998), the Netflix show Bill Nye Saves the World (2017–present), and for his many subsequent appearances in popular media as a science educator.

Nye began his career as a mechanical engineer for Boeing Corporation in Seattle, where he invented a hydraulic resonance suppressor tube used on 747 airplanes.

In 1986, Nye left Boeing to pursue comedy, writing and performing jokes and bits for the local sketch television show Almost Live!, where he would regularly conduct wacky science experiments.

Nye aspired to become the next Mr. Wizard and with the help of several producers successfully pitched the children's television program Bill Nye the Science Guy to KCTS-TV, channel 9, Seattle's public television station. Now the former star of the popular kids show Bill Nye The Science Guy is now the CEO of The Planetary Society, an organization founded by Bill's mentor Carl Sagan, where he's launching a solar propelled spacecraft into the cosmos and advocating for the importance of science, research, and discovery in public life.

We watch, from behind the scenes, if you wish, how Nye slips out from underneath his Science Guy lab coat and takes on those who deny climate change, evolution; and a science-based world view.

Featuring, along with Nye, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Ann Druyan, and many others, 'Bill Nye: Science Guy', as a title, might actually be a wee bit misleading here, but the show is nonetheless riveting to behold. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:

Bill's Father and the Solar Noon Clock - Bill takes us on a tour of Cornell University to show us his "solar noon clock" which was made in honor of his father who spent time as a prisoner of war in WWII.

Climate March - In an effort to make NYC more green, Bill joins the march to for a 100% renewable city.

Marc Morano - Marc Morano is a climate change contrarian who is making his own documentary, alleging that there is a scientific conspiracy to mislead the public that an increase in CO2 causes climate change.

Larry Wilmore Show - Bill makes an appearance at the Larry Wilmore show to help create awareness for climate change in popular media.

White House Science Fair - In President Obama's last year in office, Bill goes to the final annual White House science fair.
