'We're Going On A Bear Hunt'
(Olivia Colman, Mark Williams, Pam Ferris / DVD / G / 2018 / PBS)

Overview: Based on the bestselling children's book by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' follows siblings Stan, Katie, Rosie, Max, the baby, and Rufus the dog, who decide one day to go on an adventure through whirling snowstorms, oozing mud, and dark forests in search of bears!

DVD Verdict: in truth, and thankful, as just from the front cover art I really wanted to like/love this release, the animation here on 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt' is both artful and fluid.

The story line is a sweet little adventure that treads delicately with the loss of a grandparent. (possibly so delicately that littler kids won't catch it, but in an emotionally healthy way for older kids) and much like like 'The Snowman' (also from PBS), the ending is not traditionally "happy," but more thoughtful. Everyone goes back to their normal life having grown and learned something.

For our tender-hearted little one, the ending is an opportunity to make up stories about how Rosie and the bear get to see each other later; maybe in yet another adventure. There are always lots of honey sandwiches involved and so, of course, come the end, my wee one wanted just that for tea!

In conclusion, this short, sweet video interpretation of the classic story charmed my 2 year old from start to finish and so I know it will your wee ones also. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
