'The Very Fairy Princess & More Imaginative Tales'
(DVD / NR / 2015 / Scholastic + Cinedigm)

Overview: You can collect the entire library of Scholastic Storybook Treasures and read along on screen with your favorite classic children’s stories, brought vividly to life on DVD.

DVD Verdict: In 'The Very Fairy Princess & More Imaginative Tales', a new single-disc release from Scholastic Storybook Treasures: The Classic Collection (that helps support Imagination, Self-Esteem and Fantasy), we are brought into the delightful worlds of four amazing characters.

For those unfamiliar with the Scholastic Storybook Treasures collection, in general, each DVD features live-action renditions, fully animated versions, versions where a camera pans over the original illustrations to provide movement and visual interest, and so forth. These collections are always eclectic (and that is GOOD!) and I'm always surprised by the new favorites my children discover.

THE VERY FAIRY PRINCESS - Written by Julie Andrews (yes, THAT very same "Mary Poppins"-lady!) and Emma Walton Hamilton, and illustrated by Christine Davenier, it tells the tale of Geraldine, who knows deep down that she is a very fairy princess! But she doesn’t mind getting a little messy in order to have the perfect day!

EXTRA YARN - Written by Mac Barnett, and illustrated by Jon Klassen, this is a modern day fairy tale about how a young girl and her magical yarn transform a community.

THE AMAZING BONE - Written and illustrated by William Steig, it is the story of a lonely pig (aahhhh)named Pearl, who dawdles long enough in a field of dandelions to meet a bone who speaks to her!

MY GARDEN - Written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes, is the story of a little girl who dreams of creating a garden full of chocolate rabbits, and flowers that change color. Well, that and tomatoes the size of beach balls, of course!

This is a Widescreen Presentation (1:78.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of Interviews with Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton.
