'If You Build It'
(DVD / NR / 2015 / PBS)

Overview: 'IF YOU BUILD IT' follows designer-activist Emily Pilloton and Matthew Miller to rural Bertie County, the poorest in North Carolina, where they work with local high school students to help transform both their community and their lives.

DVD Verdict: Watching 'If You Build It' you just cannot help yourself from being continually inspired by seeing the students from Bertie County, North Carolina fight against the odds and take their skills to the outdoor classroom in this truly engaging documentary.

'If You Build It' follows designer-activists Emily Pilloton and Matthew Miller in their quest to prove to high-school students that ideas can become realities through hard-work and determination. We watch along as they all work together to construct a building and change their lives! And yes, it is rather as simple as that, as an overlay, but the underlay is just incredible to behold.

Matt and Emily's class is based on designing things, but then their class sets itself apart by actually having the HS kids build what they have designed. The 10 HS juniors who signed up for the class find themselves challenged in the best of ways, and come to discover a lot about themselves along the way, giving meaning to one of the empowering slogans in the class room "Design. Build. Transform." This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Feature of: Deleted Scenes.
