(Katt Williams, Orlando Brown, Antoine Cleveland, et al / DVD / R / 2015 / LGF)
Overview: Samuel's dream of buying a recording studio, making a hit record, and becoming a famous hip-hop artist has hit a snag. The money he borrowed to make it all happen is long over due. With the money all gone and the record far from finished, he becomes desperate for a solution.
DVD Verdict: Fascinatingly, the 'American BadBoy' Co-Executive producer Alonzo Williams is the person who first discovered rap-mega-Mogul Dr. Dre., whose first rap group World Class Wrecking Crew, he co-founded. Way much more interesting that this movie, 'American Badboy' is exactly what the label says: "Magic Mike Meets Hustle And Flow"!
Executive Producer Katt Williams and Director Obba Babatundé, Award Winning Broadway, Film and Television Actor, lead a star studded cast in a story of ambition, redemption, and acceptance in 'American BadBoy.'
As you might well know by now, 'American BadBoy' tells the story of prominent preacher, Pastor Lovely (Obba Babatunde), whose son Samuel, (Antoine Cleveland) is filled with talent and ambition to become a famous hip-hop artist. Samuel's dream is in jeopardy when he runs into financial trouble. Fortunately, The Bruce (Katt Williams) makes him and offer he can't refuse.
Samuel is forced to make a difficult decision and to keep a secret that could risk his relationships with his father and his girlfriend, Sonya, (Ciarra Carter). His "secret" is soon revealed, as his talent and good looks draw bigger crowds than he ever imagined.
The story of 'American BadBoy' was inspired by bold and innovative storytelling like 'Pulp Fiction', 'Car Wash', 'Goodfellas' and 'What's Love Got to Do With It?'. All interesting stories with strong actors I'm sure working on this movie for all concerned was a very powerful experience. To have such incredible actors, a strong crew and a passionate director bring a vision to life, is truly a Blessing.
'American BadBoy' also features the new Contemporary Gospel single "Testimony", from artist Fella Soul, as the first single from the film's Official Soundtrack on Thump Records. Fella Soul, aka Johnny Louis III, is a real life example of how someone perceived as "bad" can transform his or her life and create a new foundation for good, admitting "he was on a fast track to nowhere until he heard the voice of God." Today, he has four songs featured on the American Bad Boy soundtrack, touring and is completing his own album to be released later this year. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1:78.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
