'Healing'
(Hugo Weaving, Don Hany, Xavier Samuel, Robert Taylor, et al / DVD / R / (2014) 2015 / Anchor Bay Entertainment)

Overview: At the tail end of a 16-year sentence, an inmate is sent to a low-security, pre-release prison with a special program that pairs men with injured game birds.

DVD Verdict: This was yet another movie that I went into watching unknowing of the plot line - just wanting to be surprised - and boy, was I surprised! 'Healing' is truly EXCELLENT! The cinematography, great music, a wonderfully vibrant script and some really fine performances - particularly from the three male leads: Hugo Weaving, Don Hany and Xavier Samuel - all enticed me back again for a second viewing just the next day!

But then again, every performance in this film is good, and Jane Menelaus is so convincing as the Sanctuary's Raptor Expert that one could believe that is her day job. And Yasmine, the wedge-tailed eagle, plus some very cute owls, nearly steal the show. Another star of the show is atmospheric shots of the beautiful scenery as it unfolds during flight and such.

The movie takes a leisurely pace to get there, sure, but this is absolutely fitting to parallel the slow rate of healing for all of these damaged animal and human characters. It also reflects the slow routine of the prisoners' lives. Watch this movie for yourself and see how making a methodical movie can not only be beneficial, but wondrous for the viewing public to behold thereafter.
