'SciGirls - Seasons 1 & 2'
(4-DVD / NR / 2015 / PBS)

Overview: Winner of a Daytime Emmy® Award, meet bright, curious, real tween girls who put science and engineering to work in their everyday lives!

DVD Verdict: For those not in the know, 'SciGirls' is an American children's animated and live-action television series that premiered on February 13, 2010 on PBS Kids Go!.

'SciGirls' is an educational outreach program for elementary and middle-school children based on proven best practices for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education for girls. It was launched in February 2011 and produced by Twin Cities Public Television, the episodes are broadcast on most PBS stations.

In short, 'SciGirls' is designed to encourage girls to pursue STEM careers, in response to the low numbers of women in many scientific careers. In every episode, animated hosts Izzie and Jake face a new challenge. With the help of the SciGirls website, Izzie finds a different team of middle school girls who work with scientist mentors to design their own investigations on a wide variety of topics, from the environment to technology, engineering to nutrition, and beyond.

Here on this incredible 4-Disc Seasons 1 & 2, the SciGirls study dolphins, engineer a giant mechanical puppet, unearth archaeological secrets, create high-tech fashions, and much more. 'SciGirls' also inspires kids to explore the world around them and discover that Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math are everywhere! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of both Spanish Audio and Subtitles.
