'Toto - 35th Anniversary Live from Poland'
(Toto / Blu ray / NR / 2014 / Eagle Eye Media)

Overview: This spectacular live concert sees Toto celebrating their 35th Anniversary at the Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland during their 2013 World Tour.

Blu ray Verdict: I Love all things Toto, but even if I didn't how could I not sing-along to hit songs like 'Pamela,' 'Africa' and 'Hold The Line,' etc.? Ergo, Toto - 35th Anniversary Live from Poland is one amazing show! Steve Lukather displays all his talents with his excellent guitar playing and amazing riffs along with his vocals that after 35 years still hold up well. Steve Porcaro and David Paich are as strong as ever on keys and although the latter's own vocals have lost a little edge to them, he never fails in giving his all. Joseph Williams, back on lead vocals does an incredible job also (he was the original singer on 'Pamela' anyway) and so it is refreshing to see (and hear) him sing again with Toto. Nathan East was steady on the bass, as always, and yes Jeff Porcaro was a great drummer. However, Simon Phillips fits this group like a glove!

And so with long-time lead singer Bobby Kimball now out of the band since 2008 (we won't go into it, save for repeating what Lukather once said about him: "He used our name and likeness to sell his karaoke sh*t version of Toto, a band and legacy that we were proud of. We will NEVER work together again.") the biggest question for me was could the hits still sound like Toto without the original lead singer singing them? And the answer is a resounding yes! Personally, I prefer Kimball on lead vocal, but Williams was great. Well, save for all is air guitar moments! Could have done without those, trust me!

Anyway, moving on and this is a terrific live show. After 35 years, the enthusiasm of the band, the showmanship, and especially the musicianship is still at the highest level. While Toto is appreciated by fans worldwide, they remain a true "musicians band" in that each individual in the group, whether playing an instrument or using their voice as one, is considered by their peers to be some of the best around.

And so with that spirit of group love overflowing this made for a great concert experience. Picture and sound were both excellent also as the guys bring us 'Hydra,' 'I'll Be Over You,' 'Rosanna,' 'Hold The Line,' 'Africa' and many, many more.
