'Murdoch Mysteries: Season Six'
(Yannick Bisson, Hélène Joy, Jonny Harris,Georgina Reilly, et al / 3-DVD / Not Rated / 2014 / Acorn Media)

Overview: At the dawn of the 20th century, Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye) solves Toronto’s trickiest cases with scientific insight and ingenuity in this award-winning mystery series. From flying early aircraft to infiltrating nudist communities, consulting with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to helping a young Winston Churchill, Murdoch has always been a man ahead of his time.

DVD Verdict: For those not in the know, this is one of those under-the-radar shows (still, weirdly!) whose stars still remain unknown to most Americans! And yet these very same stars are very well known and appreciated in their homeland re: Canada; where this series originated and was filmed, for the most part.

The simply terrific 'Murdoch Mysteries' has been going for six years now, this being the six, of course and its often-times humorous references to the beginnings of many inventions - that Murdoch either builds or works with the inventors on - as quaint, as realistic, as ongoing here also; you'll be glad to know.

The superb, and highly believable Yannick Bisson plays Murdoch and heads a terrific cast. Back again come his boss, Brackenreid (Thomas Craig), Crabtree (Jonny Harris), Dr. Ogden (Helen Joy), Higgins (Lachlan Murdoch), and the uber sexy Dr. Grace (Georgina Reilly).

My own personal favs from the seven (7) eps are the first one, 'Murdoch Air' where he takes another look at flying machines after an unusual accident; 'A Study in Sherlock' where Sherlock Holmes (Andrew Gower- Monroe) helps with putting all the clues together; 'Murdoch Au Naturel,' where a body from a nearby nudist colony is found (ie: watch out for nudity, people!); and finally the season-ender 'The Ghost of Queen's Park,' where Crabtree tries to help when ghosts could be the answer to the problem!

In closing, I can totally recommend this whole series to anyone who likes a mystery. Murdoch is a great detective and you don't have to worry about being violated with a bunch of sex scenes! And, as noted above, I particularly like the Sherlock Holmes episode as it was nicely thought out! These are all Full Screen Presentations (1:77.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
