'Dead in Tombstone' (Blu-ray + DVD Combo)
(Danny Trejo, Mickey Rourke, Anthony Michael Hall, Dina Meyer, Richard Dillane, et al / Blu ray+DVD / NR / 2013 / Universal Pictures)

Overview: As a ruthless gang overruns a small mining town, they murder their own leader, Guerrero Hernandez (Trejo), in a cold-blooded power grab. Sentenced to eternity in hell, Guerrero finds himself confronted by Satan himself (Rourke), offering a daring proposition: deliver the six souls of his former gang and he will escape damnation!

Blu ray Verdict: The first thing you realize about Guerrero Hernandez (Danny Trejo) is that he is small in stature! I mean, tiny small, which for some reason I'd never noticed before. Not that his height, or lack of flounders him in any way here in this unique gun slinging revenge fest. But it does keep coming back to mind as you see him face down one of his men taller than him one minute and yet when they are face to face they are level!

Ahhh, the art of film technology! Anyway, moving on and this is one of those films where you come into it thinking, as I did, that it is just another wild west shoot 'em up escapade now remade for the 2013. Well, some of that is correct, but over all you'd be wrong, trust me!

Writer/Director Roel Reine has created a whole new version of the wild west and with his superb cast of actors has brought a stage play to the small screen, basically. Guerrero is the leader of the Blackwater Gang, a band of ruthless outlaws who after freeing Red (the half-brother of Guerrero) from a hanging listen to him as he reveals info on a town called Edenville.

His half-brother Red (played ruthlessly like never before by Anthony Michael Hall) wants to loot the mining town of Edendale as they have struck gold in the mines! And, well, they don't know what to do with it or where to take it! So they keep it in their Bank - a wooden structure, of all things!

Anyway, that all backfires spectacularly when after the successful blowing of the safe reveals the gold (and money) Red double-crosses his half-brother by unloading (as all the gang does) his clip into him.

With the town now renamed Tombstone, a mystery man who flirts in and out of view finds Guerrero in his way down deep Hell - but instead of torturing his evil soul he listens to his proposition: His soul spared for the dark souls of the other six members of his gang. This man he is bargaining with is, as revealed early on The Devil and is played in fine majestic form by Mickey Rourke. Sometimes looking bloated, sometimes even looking like an older William Shatner, Rourke steals the show.

And so as we progress Guerrero has just 24 hours to kill the six gun men himself, and deliver them to the Church to be placed in pine boxes for all to see. And the way he does this is, well, SO MUCH FUN to behold. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1:85.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
