'The Sitter - Unrated'
(Gail O'Grady, Mariana Klaveno, et al / DVD / NR / (2007) 2008 / Rhi Entertainment)

Overview: A psycho thriller that slashes away at the facade of a perfect family 'The Sitter' is anything but your typical lifetime movie. When prosperous California Couple Carter an Meghan search for the perfect nanny they believe they've found their answer in sweet Abby Reed. But no sooner does she arrive than she begins to arouse suspicion in friends and neighbors who one by one start dying.

DVD Verdict: As we all know by now, the 'baby-sitter from hell' story has been done to death! But that does not stop people from trying again and again!! However, veteran director Russell Mulcahy ('Resident Evil: Extinction') broke into the feature film business on the strength of his stylish Duran Duran music videos from the 1980s, and he thankfully injects this run-of-the-mill film with much needed visual panache.

That said it truly is the lead actress here - Mariana Klaveno - who comes out with all the hand claps and mighty cinematic appeal. Klaveno is utterly convincing and appealing as both the dark and the light sides of the character struggle for dominance within her.

Sure this borrows heavily from Curtis Hanson’s 'The Hand That Rocks the Cradle,' but it's better to accept and ignore this minor detail and appreciate this film for what it has. And that is one engrossing, compelling and entertaining little B-movie.

Emmy Nominee® Gail O’Grady (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, “NYPD Blue”, 1996) and William R. Moses (“Falcon Crest”) who begin the initial search for the perfect nanny here are really good in their roles also, so let's not forget about the supporting cast - as it is quite strong also.

That said, it's Klaveno - little known except for a handful of appearances in television shows and small films - who leads the earnest and capable cast. Indeed, she literally sinks her teeth into her role as Abby, the live-in babysitter who is troubled, but usually in control of her considerable issues. Buy this or rent this today ... but don't turn all the lights off, trust me! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.66:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs, but does not comes with any Special Features.
