'Tom and Jerry: A Nutcracker Tale'
(Animation / DVD / G / 2007 / Warner Bros.)

Overview: Based on an original idea by creator, Joe Barbera, Tom and Jerry find themselves in a fantastic wonderland brought to life by holiday magic and set to the music of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker".

DVD Verdict: In an empty opera house, Jerry wishes for his chance to perform and magically his dream comes true. The little mouse is whisked away to an enchanted kingdom where anything is possible... candy forests, singing snowflakes, even the toys spring to life! Jerry has a great time with his new friends and when Jerry dances with a music box ballerina, he is as happy as happy can be.

Unfortunately, a group of alley cats led by Tom, crash Jerry's party, kidnap the music box ballerina, and wreak havoc in the holiday kingdom. It's up to Jerry to set things right and send those mean old cats back to the alley where they belong. With some help from a mouse named Tuffy and all his newfound friends... Jerry just might win the day!

While watching 'Tom and Jerry: A Nutcracker Tale,' I thought it would be another terrible Tom and Jerry movie just like the past few they have done. I was ready to turn off the television immediately after it started until the beautiful animation and music caught my eye. Soon enough I was sucked into the movie, I was literally on the edge of my seat through the first half to the end. As soon as the end credits started to roll I saw that this was directed Spike Brant and Tony Cervone and written by Joe Barbera prior to his death.

This original movie has really showed true character and storytelling above many theatrical movies and stayed very true to the original comedy and style of the old Tom and Jerry shorts. If Joe Barbera was still alive I'm sure he would have been proud of how well his last project turned out. Because I liked it so much I'm putting both of my thumbs way up! Highly Recommended! This is a Standard Version (1.33:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:

Tom and Jerry's Holiday Story Factory: DVD-ROM enhanced feature you can use to create your very own holiday card or storybook
