'Agatha Christie's Poirot - Classic Collection 2'
(David Suchet, et al / 9-Disc DVD / NR / (1990) 2007 / Acorn Media)
Overview: As portrayed by David Suchet, Agatha Christie's brilliant Belgian sleuth became the most-watched detective in the history of the PBS Mystery! series anda hit all over again on A&E. The incomparable Poirot cracks his most challenging cases in these feature-length episodes.
DVD Verdict: When Acorn released the first Classic Collection, people like me rushed up to our Editors and begged to be first in line to take the sumptious box home for review! This first mega set contained 12 discs representing the hour long episodes at a price well below the price of them individually. The 2 hour episodes had been previously released separately and in two box sets called Movie Collections - both of which I personally purchased!
So it stands to reason that for people like me who obtained the first mega set, that Acorn would eventually release another combining the nine 2 hour episodes in one further mega set ... which they did! So, and once you've purchased this set, you can safely say you have all 21 discs in two sets to take up less shelf space! I'll tell you the truth folks, I agree with that philosophy, whole heartedly.
A literary legend became a TV phenomenon when David Suchet took on the role of Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christie’s most famous sleuth. This incredible box set includes 9 discs filled with the most devious detective stories ever brought to screen. Using his "little grey cells" and aided by the affable Captain Hastings (Hugh Fraser), Poirot unravels the thorniest cases without mussing a hair of his famously sculpted mustache. Lush art deco period details and scripts infused with delicious Christie wit make these mysteries irresistible. This new mega set includes the following classic Poirot 2 hour movies: The ABC Murders,
Death in the Clouds, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, Peril at End House,
One, Two, Buckle My Shoe, Dumb Witness, Hercule Poirot's Christmas, Hickory Dickory Dock, Murder on the Links, and the bonus documentary, 'Agatha Christie's Garden.
David Suchet joins Jeremy Brett at the pinnacle of actors portraying classic detectives. Suchet IS the definitive Poirot, but the character is deep enough for the warmer and more humorous portrayal by Peter Ustinov to remain a wonderful alternative.
