'Slings & Arrows - Season 1'
(Stephen Ouimette, Martha Burns, et al / 2-Disc DVD / NR / (2005) 2006 / Acorn Media)

Overview: Showered with awards and critical acclaim, this darkly comic Canadian series follows the fortunes of a dysfunctional Shakespearean theatre troupe, exposing the high drama, scorching battles, and artistic miracles that happen behind the scenes.

DVD Verdict: This incredibly well-acted, wonderfully written series brought back all of the reasons that I got into - and, ultimately, that I got out of - theatre in the first place. It lovingly depicts all of the fun, excitement, and insanity that goes on backstage, where the drama usually excedes anything that the audience witnesses. When I learned of the DVD release, I immediately requested to review them from my Editor so that myself and my friends could sit and enjoy these wonderful episodes over and over again ... and we have! Anyone who has ever worked backstage, been backstage or seen a backstage will recognize the truth in this show! Hilarious! The Prince of Denmark with yet another layer of madness. How can you go wrong? What, you expected Cats? Wicked smart entertainment, don't miss it. Again, please ... this show is not to be missed! This is a Full Screen Presentation (1.78:1) and comes with the Special Features of:

Trailer
Bloopers
Deleted and extended scenes
Production notes
Lyrics to "Cheer Up Hamlet" and "Call the Understudy"
